January 23, 2013 – Oberlin Kansas
The 2013 season marks the 8th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the United Rebel Sprint Series. After the checkered flag flew on the historic 2012 URSS campaign that saw the first repeat champion in series history, Rebel promoter Rick Salem is excited to unveil the 2013 Rebel campaign which will consist of approximately 35 nights of competition in Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.
For the second year in a row the Rebels will open up there season with the 2nd Annual Cow Chip Nationals on April 19 at Beaver County Raceway in Beaver Oklahoma. Last years inaugural event saw “The Hill City Hot Shoe” Jeff Radcliffe capture the event win. The Rebels will also make a return trip to the “Sooner State” on Aug 9th.
For the first time since 2010 the Rebel series will feature the return of a “URSS Speed weeks” featuring seven nights of racing over nine days. The racing will kick off on Friday, July 26th with the Rebels hitting the track at Dodge City Raceway Park. The Rebels return to the lightning fast oval at Fairgrounds Speedway in Liberal, KS with three nights of racing during the 5 State Fair July 27th, 28th, and 29th. Speed weeks will continue as the rebels visit Wakeeney Speedway on Wednesday, July 31st during the Trego County Free Fair.
After taking a night off, Speedweek rolls on as the series returns to two of the circuits favorite racetracks. The drivers will battle on the tight 1/4 mile oval at The Bull Ring Nationals at Rush County Speedway in LaCrosse, Kansas on Friday, August 2nd. Saturday, August 3rd, Ness City’s Luke Cranston will look to continue his series dominance at the 305 Belleville Nationals, one of the most famous half mile dirt tracks in the country, the Belleville High Banks. Cranston will be coming in hot, winning the previous five URSS events held at the High Banks of the six in series history. The return of the URSS Speedweeks will be one of the most anticipated events of the season for drivers and fans.
One of 2012′s most successful events, the Bob Salem Memorial will appear for the second consecutive year on the URSS schedule. Last season, first year driving sensation Jake Bubak put it on the veterans of the series to take top honors at the inaugural event. Drivers will once again take the green flag to honor the memory of the late Bob Salem on his home town track at Decatur County Speedway in Oberlin, KS.
The URSS will wrap up the 2013 campaign with the season points championship that will shake down in the “Wild West” at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, KS . Last years National Championship was determined at this event. Eventual National Champion Brian Herbert out dueled the Colorado Regional Champion Jake Bubak for the series crown. If the history of the tight points battles holds true, this race will be key in determining the 2013 URSS National Champion.
The United Rebel Sprint Series would also like to announce two additions to the series rules for the 2013 racing season. Along with the World Product URSS Spec Heads, the Racesaver and ASCS Spec Heads will be allowed in run with the URSS series this year. Also racers will be allowed to use the ASCS Medium Right Rear tire at all United Rebel Sprint Series sanctioned events.
