5.24.15 Civil War Sprints Results

(PETERSEN MEDIA- Chico, CA)- Coming up short during the 2014 edition of the Silver Dollar Fair Race, Chico, CA driver, Jonathan Allard, put on a charge from the fifth row on Sunday night and made a late race pass to win what was an electric night of racing during the series fifth event of the season.

After the race got off to a slow start with four stoppages in the race’s first 10-laps, it was Kyle Hirst leading the way, as Dominic Scelzi, Willie Croft, and Andy Forserberg battling behind.

When the race settled into a nice flow the capacity crowd was treated to some awesome racing, as drivers battled wheel to wheel racing for positions second through sixth while Hirst was comfortably out front.

With Hirst up front and getting closer to traffic, Croft, Scelzi, Forsberg, and Shane Golobic, and Cory Eliason all jockeyed for position as Hirt’s lead was noticeably shrinking. As the pack battled, Jonathan Allard seemingly came out of nowhere as he surged his way into the fourth spot, and quickly into the third spot with 10-laps to go as he battled with Willie Croft.

Lapped Traffic came into play with eight laps to go, and the race for the lead became a four car affair, as Hirst, Croft, Allard, and Golobic raced under a blanket as they weaved their way through traffic, until the caution flew with six markers to go.

Getting clear track in front of him, Hirst was able to retain the lead, but Allard was able to move into the second spot, and challenge for the race lead, but the final caution of the night flew on the 27th lap.

Kyle Hirst would win the drag race into turn one, but Jonathan Allard would go top shelf, and bring the crowd to their feat as he flew around the outside of Hirst exiting turn two, and would never look back as he picked up his first Civil War Series win of the season.

“My guys have been working hard, and tonight really felt like we got a handle on this car,” Allard said. “It’s great to win in front of the hometown crowd, especially when the crowd is as big as it was.”

After leading the first 27-laps, Hirst was in good spirits as he crossed the stripe second for the second consecutive night with the series. “Congrats to Jonathan and his guys on the win,” Hirst said. “It was a fun race, and he just made a really good move to beat us on that last restart. It’s fun running the Finley Farms car, and I thank Scott and Jason Finley for letting me come out here this weekend.”

Racing wheel to wheel with Hirst and Allard over the final laps, Willie Croft would grab the final spot on the podium. “It was been a rough start to the year, kind of discouraging, but this feels like a turning point,” Croft said. “We had an awesome car, and it was a blast racing wheel to wheel with those guys. Congrats to Jonathan (Allard), and Kyle (HIrst), and a huge thank you to my guys for working so hard for me.”

Rounding out the Top-10 would be Shane Golobic, Cory Eliason, Robbie Price, Jason Statler from the 18th starting position, Dominic Scelzi, Justin Sanders, and Sean Becker.

A very healthy 42 cars checked into the Silver Dollar Speedway on Sunday night, and it was Cory Eliason getting things started with quick time honors.

Four Civil War Series Presented by Flowmaster heat races would get the racing action started with Kyle Hirst, Andy Forsberg, Cody Lamar, and Justin Sanders each grabbing wins.

In C Main action, Jeremy Hawes simply checked out, and picked up the win as John Michael Bunch would finish in the second position, and also transfer into the B Main event.

The B Main saw Kurt Nelson work his way forward from his second row starting spot as he took the win, and brought Jason Statler, Heath Duinkerken, Steven Stiner, Koen Shaw, and Jonathan Cornell with him to the feature event.

In a very exciting Dash, Kyle Hirst would pick up the win, and earn the right to start on the pole for the 30-lap feature event.
