6.19.15 Albany Saratoga Speedway Results

Malta, NY – As the 50th Anniversary season progresses at the Great Race Place, one driver continues to set records at a pace that only Mother Nature can stop. Brett Hearn won Friday evening’s 35 lap Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified feature event. The win moves the Garden State driver’s all-time feature wins record to 122 at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway.

In other action Tim Hartman, Jr won the held over 26 lap Mark Hughes Memorial Sportsman event while Chris Johnson claimed the regularly scheduled 25 lap feature event. Josh Flint won the CRSA RaceSaver 305 Sprint Car Series A-Main while Kenny Martin was victorious in the DIRTcar Pro Stock event. Andrew Buff won the 15 lap Limited Sportsman feature event while Damon Anderson was the Street Stock winner.

During a break in the action 39 bicycles were given away to 38 lucky children and one adult. The bicycles were donated by race teams, officials and other patrons of the Great Race Place. An autograph session was also held before the start of racing featuring drivers that call or have called the fast four tenths of a mile home, some of the drivers included Kim Duell, Mike Ballestero, Nick Ronca and Jimmy Davis.

Ray Hoard and Elmo Reckner led the field to the green with Reckner taking the early advantage over Hoard. The first of nine caution flags slowed the event on lap one when Keith Flach came to a stop in turn two. Reckner held the lead on the restart with Hoard, Brett Wright, Brian Gleason and Kris Vernold following. The second caution flag waved on lap two when Bobby Hackel, IV spun in turn two.

When racing resumed Reckner was the leader with Hoard, Wright, Gleason and Vernold following. On lap three Hoard slipped high as the field approached turn three which allowed Wright to get past for second. Hearn meanwhile was on the move. The defending track champion moved into sixth on lap five with Kenny Tremont, Jr. and Ronnie Johnson following into sixth and seventh. A lap later both Hearn and Tremont would make their way past fourth place runner Gleason, who had just lost third to Vernold.

Justin Barber spun off turn two on lap eight to bunch the field back up and cause caution number three. On the restart Wright took the lead with Reckner, Hoard, Vernold and Hearn following. Gleason would bring out the caution on lap nine when he stopped in turn four. On the restart Wright continued to lead with Reckner second, Hearn now third, Hoard fourth and Vernold fifth.

On lap ten, exiting turn four Hearn made an incredible move to go from third to alongside Wright for the race lead. The caution flag waved as the lead duo made their way through turns one and two for Neil Stratton who spun in turn four. While Hearn was past Reckner for second at the line he was not past Wright, so Wright remained the race leader.

When Racing resumed Hearn took the lead with Wright, Reckner, Vernold and Tremont following. On lap 12 Vernold had fallen out of the top five and Johnson moved into it as he passed both Tremont and Reckner to take third. Two laps later Johnson moved around Wright for second only to have Wright take the spot back on lap 15. Tremont moved past Johnson for third on lap 15 and then past Wright for second on lap 18.

Johnson took third from Wright on a lap 21 restart forcing Wright to fourth. Marc Johnson took fifth from Hoard on lap 25 and then fourth from Wright on lap 32. In the end no one had anything for Hearn who pulled away for his sixth win of the season at the track. Tremont finished second with Ronnie Johnson third, Marc Johnson fourth and Peter Britten fifth. Heat races for the 29 car field were won by Hoard, Gleason and Hearn.

Tim Hartman, Jr. picked up the held over Mark Hughes Memorial for the Sportsman division. The event picked up on lap11 after Mother Nature washed out the remainder of the evening one week earlier.

Robert Bublak, Jr. and John Proctor led the field back to the green with Proctor taking the lead over Bublak and Chris Johnson. Hartman moved past Johnson for third on lap 14. Chris Murray spun just past half way to bunch up the field. On the restart Proctor held the lead over Bublak and Hartman. The leaders would run that way until lap 25 when Bublak, who had been hounding Proctor for the lead hit the inside implement tire in turn one forcing himself to spin and bringing out a last lap restart.

On the restart Proctor led however Hartman was alongside. Hartman took the lead as they powered off turn two and brought home the big win. Proctor settled for second with Rocky Warner third, Dave Baranowski fourth and Jon Miller fifth.

Johnson meanwhile picked up the regularly scheduled 25 lap Sportsman event. The win was Johnson’s third career win at the Great Race Place. Johnson and Bublak led the field to the green with Johnson taking the early lead. The race went 21 laps before seeing the first caution flag, which was caused by a Jake Scarborough spin in turn four.

Johnson continued to lead on the restart however Rocky Warner moved into second with Bublak third. Nick Anatriello spun soon after to set up one final restart. On the restart Johnson led but Warner was all over him. On the last lap Warner drove the Jake Spraker owned machine deep into turn three and then cut back down low exiting turn four. The dup drag raced to the line with Johnson winning by about half a car length. Johnson picked up the win over Warner, Bublak, Jeremy Pitts and Hartman. A total of 29 drivers entered the night’s regularly scheduled program.

Josh Flint won the CRSA RaceSaver 305 Sprint Car feature event. The win was the divisional rookie’s first of his career. Flint and Emily VanInwegen led the field to Kenny Marshall’s green flag with Flint taking the lead. Flint led the entire event and holding off Josh Pieniazek for the win. Pieniazek finished second with Chad King third, John Matrafailo fourth and Dalton Herrick fifth. Heat races for the 22 car field were won by King, Herrick and Mike Kiser.

Kenny Martin, Jr. won the 25 lap DIRTcar Pro Stock feature event. The win was Martin’s second of the season and seventh of his career at the track. Chuck Dumblewski led most of the event before giving way to Martin on lap 21. Dumblewski finished second with Norm Loubier third, Kim Duell fourth and Byron Wescott fifth. A total of 21 drivers entered the event.
