9.27.13 Bedford Speedway Results

The track was fast and DJ Troutman was the fastest at Bedford Friday night. Troutman scored a drama filled last lap Late Model victory in the first night of Fallfest action at the track. It was Troutman’s first 2013 win at the track and came in the last Late Model event of the season
Troutman was the recipient of pre race luck, but then had to earn his victory the hard way. When original pole sitter Chuck Clise failed to answer the bell, Troutman moved up to join front row starter Mike Altobelli on the front row. Action started early as a wild nine car pileup occurred in turn 4 as the green flag dropped.
On the second attempt, Troutman out wrestled Altobelli to take the initial lead. The pair ran in that order with Shawn Claar third when the first caution flew on lap 7.
Troutman shot away on that restart, but with a long green flag run, Altobelli reeled him back in . Behind them, Dylan Yoder was closing fast after climbing through the field, and made it a three way dog fight at the front. The long green flag run also littered the field with lapped cars. Andy Haus caught the lead group as the laps wore along and they ran in tight formation.
When Troutman misplayed some lapped traffic on lap 17, Altobelli busted through for the lead. Troutman got out of that situation before losing second place to Yoder, and went off in hot pursuit of Altobelli. Once again the lead quartet tightened up and when Altobelli got into deep lapped traffic Troutman zipped by coming for the white flag.
But as the lead changed hands, Matt Parks came to a halt in turn 4 setting up a one lap dash for the win. Altobelli got a great jump on the restart and was side by side for the lead as the pair restarted. Altobelli actually edged by for the lead in turn one, but Troutman stayed in the game, going door to door.
When the gang came off turn 4 for the win, Troutman edged ahead to claim the win. Altobelli, Yoder and Haus trailed. Jeff Rine came from deep in the field to take fifth, ahead of Wayne Johnson, Matt Sponaugle, Dan Cornman, Jim Yoder and Derek Byler. Troutman, Clise and Altobelli won the heats.
Former multi time track champion Scott Haus made a rare 2013 appearance at the track and had a huge lead before his car began smoking and he retired from heat 2. He along with Clise and Bobby Watt were feature non starters.
All the other divisions in 2013 Fallfest ran qualifying heats only in preparation for Saturday action.
