Craig-Dollansky-2013Solid Night, Sour Ending at Brad Doty Classic

‘The Month of Money’ commenced on Thursday for Craig Dollansky and the Eyecon Trail Cameras #7 team as the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series shifted east from Kansas to Lima, Ohio for the 25th Annual Brad Doty Classic. Making his eighth start at the Limaland Motorsports Park, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ recorded his best finish in 2007, fourth, to go along with five top-tens.

With an outstanding field of 48 sprinters on hand and the top-twenty in qualifying inverted into five heats, Dollansky timed in 14th fastest to earn a front row starting spot in heat competition. In the fourth heat, the MobileStar Maxim lined up outside pole and cruised to the victory to earn a spot in the dash. After a six-pill inversion draw just edged the #7, Dollansky started eighth in the dash and gained a row finishing 6th in the 8-lap event.

In the 40-lap A-Main the Aggressive Hydraulics backed sprinter took the green from outside row three and raced into fourth before a lap 2 yellow. Powering around James McFadden for third before a pair of cautions on lap 3, a motor issue developed under the hood of the Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance Products #7 as the car sounded noticeably different circling the high-banked ¼-mile. Holding seventh before the next yellow, Dollansky continued to run the highside but lost control in turn four spinning to bring out another caution. Restarting as the last car on the lead-lap, the Elk River, Minnesota endured two additional cautions within 10 laps remaining to salvage a 12th place finish.

Up next, Kings Royal weekend at Eldora Speedway awaits the Eyecon Trail Cameras #7 team beginning tonight, July 12th.

Top-Ten in Knight Before the Kings Royal

Kings Royal weekend was on tap for Craig Dollansky and the rest of the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars as the Eyecon Trail Cameras #7 team prepared for two nights at Eldora Speedway beginning on Friday with the ‘Knight Before the Kings Royal’.

Set to go outside Rossburg, Ohio, 44 drivers prepared for battle at the high-banked ½-mile power plant. After the Morrison Engines #7 stopped the clock 8th in qualifying at 13.404 seconds, Dollansky started inside row two in heat competition and finished 5th to transfer into the main event.

In the 30-lap A-Main the Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim lined up outside row seven. When the green flag waved on the feature, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ wasted no time charging toward the front as he powered into the top-ten taking eighth on the opening lap. Gaining two additional spots in just as many laps rim-riding around the highside, Dollansky battled with Daryn Pittman and Paul McMahan as the laps wound down in the caution-free race and took the checkered flag with a top-ten finish in 8th.

The $50,000-to-win Kings Royal takes center stage tonight for the Eyecon Trail Cameras #7 team at Eldora Speedway.

30th Annual Kings Royal Yields Twelfth

In sprint car racing one of the crown jewel events each season is the Kings Royal. Following a top-ten perform on Friday, the Eyecon Trail Cameras #7 team returned to Eldora Speedway the following night for the $50,000-to-win Kings Royal on another hot and sunny July day in Ohio.

With this year marking the 30th running of the prestigious event at the ultra-fast ½-mile, 42 drivers signed in for competition as the program got underway with qualifying as Dollansky was the first car to time in and stopped the clock at 13.411 seconds, 7th fastest. Twenty-four cars inverted into six heats then put the MobileStar #7 inside row two of heat one. With only the top-three transferring directly into the main event, Dollansky was on the outside looking in taking the checkered flag one spot short in 4th.

Not having to run the B-Main by virtue of his qualifying time, the Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim lined up outside row ten on the starting grid of the 40-lap Kings Royal A-Main. Following a red flag on lap 16, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ used a great restart to advance four positions and then two additional spots to thirteenth before another red on lap 25. Following a yellow on the ensuing restart, the Elk River, Minnesota native battled with Tim Shaffer and Daryn Pittman in the final fifteen circuits before taking the checkered flag just outside the top-ten in 12th.

“We lacked overall speed but found out a couple issues that were hindering us but didn’t get that corrected until feature time,” commented the driver of the Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance Products backed sprinter. “It hurt us in qualifying and the heat race but did improve for the feature. Given where we started we were able to advance and get up there but not as far as we would have liked. We know what we had plaguing us and we’ve got that corrected going forward and we will now go try win the Silver Cup.”

Up next, the Eyecon Trail Cameras #7 team travels to Lernerville Speedway tomorrow, July 16th, for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twin 30’s.
