(June 19) – For race fans traveling back and forth down I-35 this summer, we have the perfect place for you to stop in between your north and south destinations.

Located just off of I-35 in Bethany, Mo., there is a Casey’s General Store that has something for everyone whether you’re a pack of rabid race fans in a mini-van or a weary crew inside a toter home pulling a double-stacker trailer.

“The Casey’s store in Bethany is our favorite place to stop when we’re on the road,” said USMTS President Todd Staley. “We pretty much plan our course with this location as a mandatory stop. It’s got everything we need or want.”

Located at 4107 Miller St., this Casey’s General Store is open 24 hours. In addition to pizza and bakery this store also offers made-to-order subs and has an extended fountain selection. They have five diesel pumps for large trucks/semis as well as four diesel pumps for smaller pickups, all with easy access.

And if you need to wash away the racetrack from your face after a race, they offer very nice showers too.

From I-35, take exit 92 for US-136 toward Bethany/Princeton and then go about 2 blocks east on Miller St.

While you’re there, pick up a Large Supreme Pizza for only $13.99 and/or a Medium Supreme for $12.99 during the month of June.

Through the years, the success of Casey’s General Stores has been attributed to their clean stores, restrooms and the friendly employees who pride themselves in customer service. Casey’s customers have come to know that inside each store they will find dedicated, helpful and well-trained employees, exceptional prepared food items and a clean environment in which to shop.

* Parity Prevails Over Modified Field

* Focus of Eldora Speedway Turns to Winged Sprint Cars for Next Three Events

* Saturday Ohio Sprint Week Invasion Continues All Star Streak

4-TIME CHAMPION SHAFFER IN ELITE COMPANY, YET WINLESS AT ELDORA

ROSSBURG, OH (June 18) – When Tim Shaffer captured his fourth consecutive UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car title last season, he joined some elite company to create a three-way tie for the most consecutive championship titles. Kenny Jacobs was the first to do it (1998-2001), with Chad Kemenah stepping in the next four years (2002-2005).

However, unlike Jacobs and Kemenah, Shaffer has yet to capture an All Star Sprint win on the high banks of Eldora Speedway; something he hopes to correct Saturday night (June 22) when the touring group tackles the .500-mile clay oval in leg number two of Ohio’s 31st annual Sprint Week.

Shaffer currently trails three-time All Star Sprint champion Dale Blaney by a scant margin and remains winless on the 2013 season. However, ‘the Steel City Outlaw’ from Aliquippa, PA isn’t overly concerned just yet. He was in a similar position last year at this time, before a mid-season surge helped to power him to the 2012 championship. A Saturday victory could rekindle that surge.

Blaney, meanwhile, has captured two UNOH All Star wins this season and has a reached a comfort zone of sorts at Eldora. Nicknamed ‘the Low Rider’ by means of his driving style, Blaney is the most recent All Star Sprint Car winner at the historic speed plant, and has captured at least one feature win in each of the past three years that the touring group has visited. His total of six wins places him in a four-way tie for the most All Star wins at Eldora, while Jacobs sits comfortably atop that list with his 21 triumphs.

PARITY PREVAILS OVER MODIFIED FIELD

ROSSBURG, OH (June 18) – With four different winners in as many UMP DIRTcar Modified feature events this season at Eldora Speedway, the parity of competition is at a near record level. In the 23-year history of Modified racing on Eldora’s fabled .500-mile clay oval, that level of parity in early season competition has been reached seven other times, but only once has it reached five winners in five races – that was back in 1996. A fresh 2013 face in victory lane this Saturday night (June 22) could tie that record.

Brian Post (Middle Point, OH) captured his first-ever Eldora triumph on opening night, to become the 59th driver in 236 feature chases to carry the checkered flag. His victory was followed by Jon Henry (Ada, OH), Jerry Bowersock (Wapakoneta, OH) and Brian Ruhlman (Clarklake, MI).

Joining the UMP DIRTcar Modified division in Saturday’s tripleheader program will be the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars in leg #2 of Ohio Sprint Week, and the Eldora Stock Cars.

FOCUS OF ELDORA SPEEDWAY TURNS TO WINGED SPRINT CARS FOR NEXT THREE EVENTS

ROSSBURG, OH (June 18) – Following a highly successful Dirt Late Model Dream weekend that featured some of the most intense full-bodied racing ever seen on Eldora Speedway’s .500-mile clay oval, the focus shifts to high profile winged Sprint Car events.

Saturday’s (June 22) invasion of the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars will bright with it leg #2 of the 31st annual Ohio Sprint Week. With a grueling eight-race slate over a nine-day period throughout the Buckeye state, the Ohio Sprint Week got its start in 1983 and is revered within the Sprint Car world as one of the most highly anticipated events of its kind.

With Ohio Sprint Week kicking off the previous night (June 21) at Attica Raceway Park and then moving to nearby Waynesfield Raceway Park on Sunday (June 23), Eldora Speedway is offering free camping for the travelling race fans Friday and Saturday.

A three-week layoff follows the Sprint Week attack before Eldora’s annual chase for Sprint Car royalty takes center stage over the weekend of July 12 and 13. The lucrative two-night stand kicks off Friday (July 12) with the Knight Before the Kings Royal and a full program of STP World of Outlaws Sprint Car racing. That will serve as the final tune-up for the 30th annual Kings Royal and its traditional pomp and circumstance which include a seat atop the fabled throne, the crown and the $50,000 paycheck.

The all Sprint Car weekend includes the NRA Sprint Invaders each night as well.

SATURDAY OHIO SPRINT WEEK INVASION CONTINUES ALL STAR STREAK

ROSSBURG, OH (June 18) – When the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars tackle Eldora Speedway Saturday night (June 22) it will continue an unrivaled streak on the renowned .500-mile high banked clay oval. It will mark the 132nd appearance of the travelling series at Eldora, the most of any facility along the All Star tour.

Dating back to the inaugural appearance on May 3, 1981 when Brad Doty powered to victory lane, 40 other drivers have registered Eldora victories over the 33-year period. Kenny Jacobs carries a comfortable lead in the all-time win record with his 21 checkered flags. His closest rivals on that list are Joey Saldana (11) along with Kevin Huntley and Jac Haudenschild each with 7.

Complete information for the upcoming events, along with ticket and campsite purchase opportunities, may be obtained by visiting the track’s website www.EldoraSpeedway.com, or by calling the speedway office at (937) 338-3815. Additionally, race fans and race teams can get behind-the-scenes access by following @EldoraSpeedway on Twitter, hitting ‘Like’ at Facebook.com/EldoraSpeedway and view video highlights at YouTube.com/EldoraSpeedwayInc. The new Eldora Speedway app for the iPhone, iPad and Android is now available for download via iTunes and Google Play.

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (June 18) – Going into Tuesday night’s Deery Brothers Summer Series event, Brian Harris said West Liberty Raceway was one of his favorite tracks.

He has even more reasons to like it now.

Harris won a record-tying fourth straight IMCA Late Model tour feature at West Liberty, going back and forth with Andy Eckrich for the lead midway through the 40-lapper before settling into the front spot and running away with the $3,000 checkers.

Next, Harris will try to set the new record of five straight series wins when Independence Motor Speedway hosts the Tuesday, July 2 show.

Pole starter Nick Marolf had his sights set on being the driver to end Harris’ streak, looking strong while leading the first 12 circuits.

Eckrich pressured Marolf before enjoying a brief run at the front of his own. That’s when the 10th starting Harris joined the mix, swapping the lead with Eckrich six times over the course of the next seven laps.

Harris was the leader when the one and only caution of the night came out on lap 24. He checked on from that point, winning easily ahead of Eckrich. Justin Kay completed a late-race bid for third, Ray Guss Jr. was fourth and Marolf ended in fifth.

Guss was the hard charger, advancing 11 positions from his original starting spot. Dan Shelliam was the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels feature qualifier drawing winner.

Indee also pays $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow.

IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are also on the midweek card.

The record of wins in four consecutive Deery Series events was set by Gary Webb in 1994 and first matched by Rob Toland in 2004. Now the owner of nine career tour wins, Harris remains the point leader heading to Independence for the eighth of 17 events on the 2013 schedule.

After defending Fonda Speedway Big-Block Modified titlist Stewart Friesen of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., was forced to abandon his plan to enter the inaugural World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at his home track tonight (June 19) due to a schedule conflict, the driver he unseated as the half-mile oval’s champ, Ronnie Johnson of Duanesburg, N.Y., agreed to replace Friesen as the Fonda regular in the full-fender field.

Johnson, 39, will make his dirt Late Model debut in tonight’s 50-lap WoO LMS A-Main at Fonda behind the wheel of a second Rocket Chassis car fielded by tour veteran Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa. – the same machine Friesen had been set to drive.

The 29-year-old Friesen consummated a deal with Frank last week that would allow him to run a dirt Late Model for the first time in his career when the WoO LMS visited Fonda, but the sizzling Big-Blocker (three consecutive feature wins at Fonda) had to withdraw from tonight’s action following the postponement of Tuesday night’s Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified event at New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway. Friesen is co-promoting (and competing) in New Egypt’s ‘Dirty Jersey 60,’ which was rescheduled for tonight (June 19).

Johnson figures to be a worthy fill-in for Friesen, who sits atop Fonda’s current Big-Block Modified standings. The son of DIRTcar Northeast and Fonda Speedway Big-Block Modified legend Jumpin’ Jack Johnson, Ronnie won the track’s 2011 points crown and is tied for 16th on Fonda’s alltime Big-Block Modified win list with 22 career victories. He is ranked third in the speedway’s 2013 points battle.

Johnson will pull double-duty tonight, competing not only in the headline WoO LMS show but also the supporting 30-lap, $3,000-to-win Big-Block Modified event.

Pit gates for tonight’s program will open at 4 p.m. and spectator gates at 5 p.m. Racing is scheduled to get the green flag at 7 p.m.

General admission is $30. Tickets for children ages 6-11 are $3 and kids 5-and-under will be admitted free of charge.

Fonda Speedway is located about 45 minutes northeast of Albany, just off Exit 28 of the New York State Thruway.

(Bill W) June 18, 2013 – The end results may not have shown it, but Kerry Madsen and the Keneric Racing #29 team felt good about the racecar in a pair of events last weekend with the World of Outlaws. On Friday at Jackson, Minnesota, qualifying was the bugaboo, and at Knoxville, if not for a flat tire, the St. Mary’s, New South Wales native was looking at a possible finish up front. This week, the WoO hit River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota before going down the interstate on Saturday to the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Kerry timed in 22nd on the ½-mile Jackson Speedway Friday. He then advanced from sixth to fourth in his heat, putting him in the main event. “Obviously, we didn’t time the greatest,” he says. “The car was good in the heat and we moved up to fourth.”

Starting in row ten, Kerry was able to pick up a few spots on a fast track that lent little passing. “We were able to get to 16th,” he says. “I felt like I was racing hard and passing more cars than where I finished. Actually, the racecar was reasonable, but there was a lot of ground to make up. It was just a tough track and a tough night to start in the back. The car was good.”

With 43 cars signed in at Knoxville Raceway, the team was ready for the challenge and timed in sixth quick. Kerry would finish third in his heat. “We qualified well, which you want to be doing with the Nationals coming up in August,” he says. “We had a really good racecar in the heat; we just couldn’t get into the top two, which you need to make the Dash. We were close.”

Kerry was charging forward in the main event from his seventh row starting spot. It was clear he had one of the faster cars on the track. “We were up to eighth by the time we had a double-file restart,” he says. “I got myself boxed in, and hit the wall coming out of four. That gave us a flat tire, and we had to restart at the back.”

The car continued to perform, and Kerry worked his way through the 26-car field to eleventh at the checkers. “We were able to get up to eleventh,” he says. “We had a good racecar all night. We were really happy with that. If we hadn’t have restarted in the back, I think the result would have been a good one.”

The Keneric Racing team was pleased with the way things went Saturday heading into the Knoxville Nationals in August. “Last time we were in Knoxville (May), we weren’t running that great, even though we ran fourth,” says Kerry. “We went with a different strategy on Saturday. With the Nationals coming up, you want to try some things. We were really happy with the car all night.”

This weekend will see a pair of bullrings, with River Cities Speedway on Friday and I-94 Speedway, a 3/8-mile, high-banked oval on Saturday. “I feel like I’ve should have won about five times there, but I haven’t won one,” says Kerry of River Cities. “I’m looking forward to a new track for me at Fergus Falls too.”

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking on the World of Outlaws at his home track, the Knoxville Raceway, Ian Madsen continued his successful 2013 campaign as he tallied a fourth place finish.

“It really shows where our team is headed when we can put together a run like that with the Outlaws,” Madsen said.

With a full field of 42 cars checked into the pit area, Madsen and his KCP Racing team were dialed in during qualifications, as he laid down the seventh fastest lap, putting him well inside the heat race inversion.

Starting third in his heat, the St. Mary’s, NSW native got into the second spot where he chased after Brian Brown, but settled for the spot, and put his Nehring Construction/Team Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply machine in both the night’s dash and feature event.

Starting fifth in the dash, Madsen did not get off to quite the start he was looking for as he lost a spot, and rolled around in the fifth spot, where he would start the feature event.

On a track that provided a decent amount of passing, the lead four cars seemed to be in a league of their own, as they broke away from the field.

Chasing after Paul McMahan, Madsen held his own, as he got up along side him, but was unable to move into the podium position, as he settled for the fourth spot.

“We had a great car at Knoxville,” Madsen said. “The guys worked hard all night, and really helped put us in a position to have a strong night.”

Friday night, the team was at the Jackson Speedway in Jackson, MN, and did not have quite the night they were looking for.

Timing in 17th quickest, Madsen and his Royal Flooring/Greenland Homes of Iowa/Stepping Stone Genetics machine just narrowly missed out on the inversion.

Starting fifth in his heat, Madsen tallied a fourth place finish, putting him in the feature, but back in the 15th spot.

On a very narrow track that did not allow for a great deal of passing, Madsen tallied an 18th place finish.

“Friday night qualifying killed us,” he said. “We just missed the inversion for the heat races, and that pretty much dictates your night.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Team Kline Electric, Logan Contractors Supply, Royal Flooring, Greenland Homes of Iowa, Stepping Stone Genetics, Quality Traffic Control, Factory Kahne, Rider Racing Engines, JRS Excavating, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Smith Precision Products, Moose Blocks, Speedway Motors, Watson’s Express Transport, and Kustom Concrete Pumping for their support.

2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-34, Wins-6, Top-5’s- 14, Top 10’s-19

ON TAP: Ian and his KCP Racing team will be in action this Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway before heading back to the Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night.

The USAC Benevolent Foundation announced today a matching, dollar-for-dollar grant for a Charlie Dean Leffler Educational Fund.

In making the announcement, Bill Marvel, Executive Director of the 501-3c designated Foundation, explained: “After serious consideration, the Board of Directors of the Benevolent Foundation decided that a Matching Dollar Grant offer be utilized exclusively for the future educational needs of Charlie Dean, Jason Leffler’s five year old son.”

Marvel continued: “To insure a sum that will assist Charlie’s future educational needs, the Foundation’s Board of Directors announced that for every dollar donated to Charlie’s future education, the Foundation will match it, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. When it reaches the $25,000 it will be then combined to the Foundation’s match and will increase the Fund Grant to $50,000. All donations received, including those received after the possible $50,000 matching Fund Grant is reached, will be ear marked for Charlie’s educational needs, aside from provisions established by Jason.”

Charlie’s mother, Alison Leffler, when informed of the Foundation’s forthcoming grant, said: “I am deeply touched that you have set up a college fund for Charlie through the USAC Benevolent Foundation.”

Earlier today, Harry Scott Jr., co-owner of Turner Scott Motorsports and one of three Trustees of the Charlie Dean Leffler Discretionary Trust, released a statement regarding the two separate funds that have been started for Jason Leffler’s son, Charlie. We would like to reiterate Mr. Scott’s statement indicating that everyone at the USAC Benevolent Foundation is going to work with everyone associated with the Charlie Dean Leffler Discretionary Trust to ensure that all monies raised, regardless of which fund they come through, go directly to caring for Charlie Dean Leffler and his needs. We are all working together towards the goal of providing for Charlie’s future. We all want to make sure that Charlie is well taken care of and that Jason’s love for him is always evident.

Donations for the Educational Grant Fund can be easily made on Pay Pal by logging onto the USAC WebSite at www.usacracing.com, scrolling down the right side, clicking on the “Donate” button under Jason’s name and following the prompts.

All contributions earmarked for the Charlie Dean Leffler Educational Fund, may be directed to the USAC Benevolent Foundation, c/o Executive Director Bill Marvel, 4910 W. 16th Street Speedway, Speedway, Ind. 46224. Bill may be reached at 859-749-0646 or atbillmarvel@gmail.com. Donations should be earmarked for this program.

Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (June 18, 2013) - After taking a couple of weeks off, Travis Rilat scored a pair of top 10s in his return to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action last weekend.

Rilat competed in his own car during the first two events of the Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek, recording a 10th-place finish in his second career race at Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas, on Friday and a sixth-place result on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway during the 40th annual Summer Nationals.

“It was an average weekend,” he said. “We rolled it back in the trailer in one piece so that’s a plus. We’re having two new engines built right now. We were fortunate enough to have a good friend in Motor Mike to loan us an engine for the weekend so we could get out there.”

Rilat maneuvered from fourth to third in his heat race at Kennedale Speedway Park, which placed him on the pole of a B Main. He led the entire 12 laps and then charged from 17th to 10th in the feature at the quarter-mile oval.

“I was just reading the other cars and going where they weren’t,” he said. “The track was racy. You could run the top and the bottom. Kevin Ramey has taken it over and has made a lot of improvements. He’s done a fine job of making the track where it’s suitable for sprint cars.”

On Saturday, Rilat led the distance of his heat race at Devil’s Bowl Speedway to earn his sixth heat victory of the season.

“The track was heavy and narrow to start out with,” he said. “I was fortunate to draw the pole of the heat and win it. That put us third in the redraw.”

Rilat started the feature third and finished sixth to garner his sixth top-10 result of the season.

This weekend he heads to Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., for the 42nd annual Jim Raper Memorial – a $20,000-to-win event he will drive for Richard Saumure Thursday through Saturday. Rilat won a preliminary night last season.

“I’m very excited about that,” he said. “I think we go pretty decent at that track. I’d put it up there in the same category with Knoxille, Eldora, Little Rock, Gold Cup. There’s 10 or 15 big races in the country and this is one of them. The competition is going to be pretty stout.”
