PETERSEN MEDIA- After struggling the last couple of weeks, and spending countless hours in the shop, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team returned to victory lane on Sunday night marking his first career UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions win at the Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD on the heels of an eighth place effort at the Knoxville Raceway.
“It got exciting there with a couple of laps to go, and I am thrilled to finally win a race at Huset’s,” he said. “I am glad we got our program back on track, and back in the winner’s circle.”
With 25 cars on hand for the Sunday night showdown, Madsen timed his Nehring Construction/Kline Electric/Logan’s Contractors Supply entry in fourth fastest, putting him in the first heat, which he won.
Lining up third in the Dash, Madsen ran in the second spot, and earned the right to start the 30-lap feature on the front row, alongside Mark Dobmeier.
When the feature event got underway, it was Dobmeier getting jump, but the St. Mary’s, NSW pilot stayed within striking distance over the first third of the race, and made his move for the lead on the 12th circuit.
Cruising in front of the field, trouble broke out on lap 28, as a pair of lapped car got together in front of the leaders. In an effort to avoid the carnage Madsen actually hooked a stalled, and did a 360, and managed to keep his car under power, and retained the top spot.
The final two markers saw Madsen cruise on and pick up his seventh win of the year overall, and second with his new US team.
“I can’t believe I kept it going when I made contact with the car,” Madsen said. “I am pumped up for Bret Nehring and everyone, it’s great to win again.”
Saturday night, Madsen was in action at the Knoxville Raceway, and he continues to show speed at the Marion County Fairgrounds facility as he timed in with the fastest lap during time trials.
A third place run in heat race action, put him in the fourth row in the feature event, where he was able to maintain, and not get moving forward.
“We tried a few things in the feature event that didn’t work, but we were able to learn from them, which is huge with the Knoxville Nationals coming up.”
At the stripe Madsen finished eighth, and now sits second in the track championship standings.
