PETERSEN MEDIA: Over the last week, Lance Dewease competed in a self-made speedweek on the East Coast as he took advantage of both the All Star Circuit of Champions, and the World of Outlaws being in the area, and it was a good week for the team as Dewease scored his second win of the year as well as a third place finish at the Summer Nationals.
“It was great to run with both the All Stars and the Outlaws, and it was really great to be competitive with them, and score a win over the week,” Dewease said.
With July 12th at the Williams Grove Speedway being rained out, Dewease’s week got underway at Port Royal on July 13th.
In what was a near non-stop feature event, Dewease picked up a 12th place finish, as it was a narrow track to gain ground on.
Heading to the Lernerville Speedway on this last Tuesday, Dewease and company were in action at the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup for the twin feature event’s, and the night did not go well for the Lelands.com/Conduit Connections/Pasquirello’s machine.
With 43 cars on hand, Dewease was a touch off in time-trials, as a 23rd quick effort put him behind the heat race inversion, making for long night with the World of Outlaws.
Missing the transfer out of his heat, Dewease charged from his fourth place starting spot to win the Last Chance Qualifier, and transfer into the two feature events.
Starting 20th in the feature, Dewease slipped back to a 22nd place finish, putting him 22nd in the second feature, where he struggled again and was scored 24th.
“The first couple of night’s we weren’t very good,” Dewease said. “We really looked hard what we were doing, and made some changes for the rest of the week.”
Wednesday night, the team headed to Fulton, NY to take on the All Star Circuit, and it proved to be a very good night.
With 24 cars on hand, Dewease timed his Penske Racing Shocks/Wings Unlimited/Brown and Miller Racing Solutions entry in sixth fastest, putting him in great position for the series format.
Starting and running third in his heat, Dewease was able to transfer into the Dash, where a second place finish put him on the front row of the feature with Dale Blaney.
Jumping out to an early lead, Dewease was simply dominant on this night. Stretching out to an early lead over the first five laps, the caution waived on lap five, but Dewease had a magnificent restart.
The next 12 laps saw Dewease continue to pace the field, when a lap 17 caution gave the field one more shot at him, but again, he motored away on the restart, and went on to pick up his second win of the season.
“We had some challenges at times from Dale Blaney and Tim Shaffer, but Mike Heffner and my crew gave me a great car, and it was awesome to park in victory lane.”
Continuing on with the All Stars, Dewease was in action on Thursday night in Fonda, NY.
Timing in 12th quickest, Dewease won his heat, but due to his time trial, he started 12th in the feature event.
Buried in the middle of the field, the Fayetteville, PA driver was able to work his way forward, and salvage a sixth place finish, and escape the weekend with the Eastern Regional All Stars Points lead.
“This Heffner Racing team won the East title last year, and I won it the year before, so it was a goal of ours to win it this year, and we are in a pretty good spot right now.”
Mother nature rained Friday’s World of Outlaw race at the Williams Grove Speedway out, so Saturday night concluded Dewease’s week.
Timing in eight quickest, Dewease surged to a second place finish in his heat race, giving him a berth in the Dash, which he started on the pole in, and won, putting him on the pole for the feature event.
Getting the jump over Donny Schatz when the race went underway, Dewease took a liking to the bottom of the speedway, though he could never seem to shake Schatz, or third running Greg Hodnett.
With the driver’s racing nearly three wide, Dewease slipped back to the second spot after pacing the first 17 laps. Before falling to the third spot with just eight laps to go.
In a caution-free event, Dewease would hang on and secure a podium finish.
“We will take the third place finish, but for some reason, we seem to lose the tires toward the end of races, it has happened to us a few times this year,” Dewease said. “Hodnett and Schatz are both very good hear, but unfortunately lapped traffic wanted to race the leaders tonight. We will take the third, be happy, and move on.”
Dewease and his Heffner Racing team would like to thank Lelands.com, Conduit Connections, Pasquirello’s Auto Shop, Penske Racing Shocks, Wings Unlimited, Brown and Miller Racings Solutions, Keizer Wheels, DMI Racing Components, Schoenfeld Headers, Hanks Performance Products, FK Rod Ends, Viper Venom fuels, ATL Fuel Cells, Schaeffer Racing Oils, Astro Titanium, Tom Shockey Collision, Kirkey Racing Seats, Michael Graphics, Valley Forge Inc., Bell Helmets, WRT Web Designs, and WRT SpeedWerx for their support.
