10.1.21 Pittsburghs PA Motor Speedway Results
On Friday evening, PPMS would see qualifying, eight heat races, a six-lap dash, two B-mains, and six feature events. Kyle Hardy (99), from Linden, Virginia, would out-pace a stellar field of RUSH Late Models to win the Bill Hendren Memorial number one during the first night of competition for the 33rd Annual Pittsburgher 100 weekend. Philip Bubeck (2P), from Colliers, West Virginia, would pick up his first career RUSH Late Model win, as he won the “One to Remember” Non-Winners Feature. Noah Brunell (18), from New Alexandria, would pick up the win in the PPMS Penn Ohio Pro Stock Feature, while Frank Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills, picked up another win for the Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stocks. Bill Tennant (2), from Colliers, West Virginia, picked up another win for the Crawford Auto Repair Four-Cylinders, while Emmerson Laboon (14), from Elizabeth, got her first career win in the All Ways Safe Young Guns Divison.
35 RUSH Late Models were signed in on Friday night for the Bill Hendren Memorial number one as a prelude to the 33rd Annual Pittsburgher 100. Joe Martin (10S) would set the FK Rod Ends “shock the clock” fast time in qualifying for the RUSH Late Models with a time of 19.284. Garret Paugh (03), from Elkins, West Virginia was a close second with a time of 19.559, only a 0.275-second difference. Less than a second would separate the top 18 drivers. The 35 RUSH Late Models were broken into four heat races, and the top four would redraw for the six-lap dash. The finish of the six-lap dash would determine the top eight starting spots in the 30-lap Bill Hendren Memorial number one a-main feature event. Paugh (03) would win the dash which put him on the pole for the 30-lap feature. Hardy (99) would start to his outside in second place.
When the green flag waved in the 30-lap Bill Hendren Memorial, Hardy (99) would grab the early lead, but a lap one caution would come for Levi Crowl (5C) who spun out. Hardy (99) would take the outside on the restart with Zack Morrow (60), from Gibsonia to his inside, and Paugh (03) in third. The rest of the field would fall back to their original starting spots, as only the top three were scored before the caution came out. When green replaced yellow, Hardy (99) would keep his lead, but the field didn’t make it through turn two before the caution was out again for a multi-car crash that collected Morrow (60) and a few other cars. The crash was cleared and the field would line up with Hardy (99) on the outside as their leader, Paugh (03) in second, and Martin (10S) in third. Hardy (99) would again keep his lead on the restart and the field would make it to lap three before another caution was out for another multi-car crash on the backstretch. Hardy (99) would again choose the outside on the restart and when the green flag waved, RUSH officials called a no-start, so they would line up to give it another try. When green finally replaced yellow, Martin (10S) appeared to take the lead, but Hardy (99) would take the lead back from Martin (10S) by the end of that lap. Martin (10S) would fall back into second, Paugh (03) in third, Eddie Carrier Jr. (184X) in fourth, and Daryl Charlier (114) in fifth by the end of lap six. Another caution would slow the pace on lap 10 for debris on the track in turn four. Hardy (99) and Martin (10S) would lead the restart with Hardy (99) now choosing the inside. Hardy (99) would again keep his lead when the field returned to green-flag conditions while Carrier Jr. (184X) followed him into second, and Martin (10S) in third. Another multi-car crash would take place on lap 12 in turn four. At this point, only 15 of the 24 cars that started the event remained. Hardy (99) and Carrier Jr. (184X) would lead the restart with Hardy (99) choosing the inside. When the green flag dropped, Hardy (99) would keep the lead, but another caution came on lap 13 when the 1Z of Logan Zarin spun out between turns three and four. When green replaced yellow this time, Hardy (99) would keep his lead, Carrier Jr. (184X) would keep second, and Charlier (114) would move up to third. Charlier (114) would eventually take second place away from Martin (10S) which knocked him back to third. Another caution would come with 10 laps remaining in the event when the 5X of Colton Flinner was off of the pace for a flat tire. Hardy (99) wanted the inside on the restart which put Charlier (114) to his outside. When the green flag waved, Charlier (114) would take the lead but it was short-lived as Hardy (99) took it right back. The event’s final caution would come on lap 21 for Crowl (5C) when he spun out in turn two. Hardy (99) and Charlier (114) would lead the final restart with Martin (10S) in third, Carrier Jr. (184X) in fourth, and Jeremy Wonderling (3J) in fifth. Hardy (99) would again keep his lead over the field with Charlier (114) in tow. Despite a trade-off with Martin (10S) and then Charlier (114) earlier in the event, Hardy (99) led all laps of the event, en route to winning the Bill Hendren Memorial night one to take home the $3,000 prize. Charlier (114) finished second, Martin (10S) third, Carrier Jr. (184X) fourth, Wonderling (3J) fifth, Jake Gunn (14G) sixth, Bud Watson (225) seventh, Paugh (03) eighth, Zarin (1Z) ninth, and Crowl (5C) rounds out the top 10. Martin (10S), Paugh (03), Zarin (1Z), and Morrow (60) won the heat races. Reft (9R), and Ray Love Jr. (08) won the b-mains.
In the RUSH Late Model “One to Remember” Non-Winners race, Kassidy Kamicker (72B) would start on the pole. Noah Brunell (31) would start to her inside in second while Zach Gunn (14G) would start third, and Philp Bubeck (2P) would start in fourth. When the green flag waved, Kamicker (72B) would keep the early lead. Bubeck (2) would take over the lead on lap two with Kamicker (72B) falling back to second. Lap three had Bubeck (2) still leading, Kamciker (72B) in second, Zach Kane (10) in third, and Nick Love (38) in fourth. Bubeck (2) would have a full straightaway lead by lap eight but a lap 13 caution would slow the pace and re-group the field. Bubeck (2) would choose the outside on the restart but RUSH Officials would call a no-start. The field would re-group and give it another try. This time when green replaced yellow, Bubeck (2) would keep his lead. He would lead the remaining two laps en route to picking up his first RUSH Late Model win. He was followed by Kane (10) in second, Tom Klein (77) in third, Z. Gunn (14G) fourth, Rob Coffaro (24C) fifth, Kamicker (72B) sixth, Love (38) seventh, Dave Gobel (20G) eighth, Brunell (31) ninth, and Zach Crawford (C4) rounded out the 10-car field.
The ADMAR Penn Ohio Pro Stock 15-lap feature would start nine cars with Chris Schneider (55), from Lower Burrell, on the pole. When the green flag waved, it appeared that Schneider (55) would take the early lead, but Noah Brunell (18) would take the high line and the lead on the exit of turn two. Lap two had Brunell (18) leading, Schneider (55) in second, Brian Huchko (60H) in third, and Nick Kocuba (10) in fourth. These top four would remain the same through lap nine and the event’s lone caution would come on lap nine when the 00 of Zack Stehle spun out. Brunell (18) would take the outside on the restart with Schneider (55) to his inside. When green replaced yellow, Brunell (18) would keep his lead over the field. Brunell (18) would lead all laps of the event en route to picking up the Pro Stock win. Schneider (55) finished second, Huchko (60H) third, Kocuba (10) fourth, AJ Poljak (36) fifth, Jeff Broniszewski (08) sixth, Brett McDonald (25) seventh, Tanya Charlier (21) eighth, and Stehle (00) ninth. The heat race winner was Schneider (55).
The Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stocks had 17 cars signed in on Friday night. They were broken into two heat races with the top four from each heat making the redraw to determine the top eight starting spots in their 15-lap feature. 2021 Track Champion, Frank Magill (05) would redraw the pole position with Stephen Shelpman (17S) starting to his outside in second. When the green flag dropped, F. Magill (05) would take the early lead and Shelpman (17S) would follow him into second. The first caution would come on lap two when Tony Magill (5) spun out low in turn two. F. Magill (05) would take the outside on the restart with Shelpman (17S) to his inside in second. When the green light came on, F. Magill (05) would keep his lead while Shlepman (17S) kept second, Gary Koteles (64K) took third from his son Cody (1K) who fell back to fourth, and his other son Jonathan (2K) was running fifth. These top five would remain the same until lap nine when Chloie Jones (76) would take over the fifth spot while the top four remained the same. F. Magill (05) led all 15 laps to pick up another Hobby Stock win. Shelpman (17S) finished second, G. Koteles (64K) third, C. Koteles (1K) fourth, Jones (76) fifth, J. Koteles (2K) sixth, Jacob Wiser (0U2) seventh, Joe Anthony (69X) eighth, Marc Corio (14) ninth, and Lonnie Lamb (83X) tenth. The heat race winners were G. Koteles (64K) and F. Magill (05).
After winning the heat race, Bill Tennant (2) would redraw and start P4 in the Crawford Auto Repair 10-lap feature while Bob Quigg (2B) would start on the pole. Hemi Kineston (05) would start second and Kyle Janas (81) would start third. When the green flag waved in the feature, Quigg (2B) would keep the early lead with Kineston (05) keeping second, and Tennant (2) moving up to third. Tennant (2) would take over the lead at the end of lap two and the start of lap three. Tennant (2) would lead the remaining seven laps of the event en route to pick up win number 11 on the season. Kineston (05) finished second, Quigg (2B) third, Janas (81) fourth, Derek Quigley (65Q) fifth, Eric Reynolds (53) sixth, Robert Dolan (2R) seventh, and Craig Rudolph (5R) would round out the eight-car field.
The All Ways Safe Young Guns would run a 10-lap feature only and Travis Clark (05T) would start on the pole. Emmerson Laboon (14) would start to his inside in second while Gavin Kokolis (91) would start third, Tyler Hollister (44) would start fourth, and Zoey Knight (05Z) would complete the five-car starting field. When the green flag dropped, Clark (05T) would keep the early lead while Laboon (14) followed him into second. The front runners would contend with lapped traffic by lap five. Laboon (14) would use lapped traffic to take over the lead but Clark (05T) would take the lead right back. Laboon (14) would eventually take over the lead on lap seven and she would lead the remaining three laps of the event to pick up her first career Young Guns win. Clark (05T) followed her to second, Hollister (44) third, Kokolis (91) fourth, and Knight (05Z) rounded out the five-car field.
