10.16.21 BOSS Sprints Results

A thirty car field and near perfect weather greeted the fans at Jeff Dice’s I-96 Speedway Saturday night for the MPD Racing BOSS sprint car portion of the “Roll The Dice” Event. In the end, it was Loomis, California’s Max Adams, aboard his family number 5 who scored the win in the 25 lap main event. He set the tone early in the night by lowering the track record nearly three-tenths of a second with a 15.672 second lap. The race was no cake-walk, as Adams redrew the dreaded 8 pill, rolling off from the outside of row number 4.

The evening began with six drivers besting the old track record during ARP Fasteners time trials. Besides Adams, Cody White, Dustin Ingle, J.J. Hughes, Keith Sheffer Jr and Steve Irwin all timed in under Landon Simon’s old record of 15.936 seconds. Preliminary heat races were won by Dustin Daggett, Matt Westfall, Parker Frederickson and Isaac Chapple. Adams’ night almost ended early. During heat race number one, he was going for the lead in search of a clean sweep night, when heavy track conditions found him bicycling the 5 car, sliding off the track and being forced to the rear of the field.

The always exciting MSD Ignitions B-Main found Keith Sheffer Jr in command in front of Jason Blonde. Mike Astrauskas, Danny Sams, Brian Ruhlman and Travis LcCombe also found their way into the 25 lap main event. The MPD Racing redraw put 2014 tour champion Mike Miller on the pole with 2019 champion Matt Westfall alongside. All four drivers at the top of the 2021 standings were in the redraw and starting in the front 7 positions, with Adams having drawn the eight.

The main event roared to life with Westfall grabbing the early lead over Isaac Chapple as the points leading duo looked to settle it on the race track. However, it was Max Adams on the move quickly from 8th to 3rd in just a few laps. The starting field of 22 cars put on a great race with a long green flag run until the first caution flag flew on lap 13.

On the restart, Westfall brought them to green, but Adams had gotten by Chapple for the runner-up spot and just a lap later was by Westfall off turn 2 for the lead. Two more yellow flags would slow the action, but Adams was never challenged as Westfall and Chapple completed the podium. Local favorite, Dustin Daggett, represented the local contingent with a fine 4th place run while Dustin Ingle rounded out the front five. Behind them, JJ Hughes, hard charger Luke Hall, Mike Miller, Jesse Vermillion and Dallas Hewitt finished out the top 10.

Matt Westfall now holds a 79 point lead headed into the final event at Waynesfield Raceway Park this Saturday, October 16th over Isaac Chapple. Mike Miller trails Chapple by only 26 markers while early point leader Cody White is just 49 from Miller. Every position is in jeopardy throughout the entire top 10 in what is no doubt the tightest overall points race in tour history! Be sure to join us Saturday to see how it all plays out in the BOSS finale at Waynesfield!
