10.21.18 Sooner Late Models Results

By John Rittenoure – ENID, Oklahoma (October 21, 2018) – Despite four wins this season Kip Hughes came into the two-day Sooner Late Model Series event at Enid Speedway in a tie for the points lead with Eddie Tidwell.

Tidwell has yet to win this season but has been very consistent with 11 top 10 finishes. Sunday Hughes moved into the points lead with his fifth victory of the season. Hughes started second row outside and moved into second behind early leader Brandon Givens at the drop of the green flag. Givens held the lead until lap three when Hughes pulled alongside. After two laps of door-to-door handle racing Hughes finally pulled ahead on lap five.

Givens spun after some close racing with Hughes for the lead to force a yellow flag on lap five. Hughes restarted in the lead and Damian Patocka took over the runner-up spot but was unable to keep pace with Hughes. Givens restarted and charged his way up to fourth where he finished behind third-place finisher Tidwell.

With one race remaining on the SLMS schedule next Saturday at Oklahoma Sports Park, Hughes will have to hang on to a slim 25 point lead over Tidwell to earn the season championship.
