10.5.19 BOSS Sprints Results

ALMA (OH) – Ohio’s Matt Westfall came into Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) race at Atomic Speedway last Saturday night as the point’s leader looking to win a race and determined to put a cap on the 2019 BOSS season Championship. And by the end of the night, and the 25 lap BOSS A-Main event, he did just that. From third starting position to the lead before the first turn and he was well on his way without obstacle. Even a last lap yellow flag and one lap shootout he would secure both race victory and Series Championship holding off the charge of Dallas Hewitt.

“Well, Landon (Simon) left the door open on the bottom so I had to shoot through there,” said Westfall. “I got a good start, we had a good night, and we got the win, that’s all that matters. I really like this place, I have won a few Modified races and several Sprint Car races here, I should have won a couple Late Model races as well but didn’t. This is one of my favorite places to race.”

Westfall got through the gap at the bottom into turn one the leader, but he had to do it three times for complete restarts. First a jumbled up start, then before the field could get through turn three the No. 1H car of Korbyn Hayslett took a big flip and collected by another car forcing the red. A 20-minute delayed followed as an ambulance was dispatched. Now back under race conditions and Westfall exited the field. By lap ten lapped traffic came into play as Westfall wasted little time in stirring up the dust. Hewitt would get by pole sitter Simon and chase after Westfall but it was obvious who had the elite car on this night. When a car spun coming to the checkers that turned yellow, Hewitt had a possible chance. It turned out just that, possible, but not doable as Westfall set sail and Hewitt challenged. Simon would fade to fifth as Michael Fischesser would come up to third followed by Dustin Ingle in fourth.

“At the end of the race it would not fire off very good. I had no idea how close anyone was to me so I just figured if I could stay in the rubber I would be ok. The tires just would not go until I got them hot, some heat in them there at the end. I just did not know how close anyone was then I saw Dallas pull up beside me, so I just stayed in the rubber and slid myself before he could slide me and worked it out to the end.”

27 cars were pit side with the BOSS group as Westfall, Luke Hall, and Brandon Conkel won the heat races. Cody Gardner sailed to the B-Main victory. The BOSS Series will wrap the season up this Saturday night as Waynesfield Raceway Park will host one of the final sprint car races in Ohio for 2019 with the Second Annual Bob Hampshire Classic.
