11.18.18 Carolina Clash Late Models Results

Gaffney, South Carolina (11/18/18) – Brandon Overton from Appling, Georgia scored his first Blue Gray 100 feature win at Cherokee Speedway and the second Carolina Clash victory after a late race tire change propelled the driver of the #24D, Terry Caples Racing, Mark McLeod owned Rocket XR1 powered by Clements Racing Engines at the Cherokee Speedway Sunday night.

After pitting on lap 74, Overton powered his way into the top five by lap 80 and came up big when Chris Madden brought out the event’s final caution on lap 90, setting up a thrilling 10 lap shootout. Chris Ferguson, who led the race from the opening flag, led 50 of the events 100 green flag laps at two different stages, swapping the lead with Brandon Overton and Chris Madden over the course of the race. The win for Overton was the second win on the weekend, after scoring a win with the Ultimate Supers at Screven, Georgia on Friday night.

The Blue Gray 100 was named in memory of legendary driver Mike Duvall and was the 28th edition of the famed Cherokee event.

Michael Brown set the Parks Heating and Cooling Fast Time of the Race and went on to win the first of three 10 lap heat races. Chris Ferguson and Brandon Overton won the other two heats in the feature, which registered 26 cars, all of which ran heat races based on qualifying results.

The event featured two scary roll over crashes (both single car) with Anthony Sanders and Ryan Gifford both tumbling in turn one of the 3/8 clay oval.

Scott Bloomquist made an appearance at the event, but had mechanical issues over most of the event and pitted after two laps of green.

Ross Bailes clinched the 2018 Carolina Clash point championship with his entry into the event and Adam Yarbrough was the 2018 CarQuest / Clarendon Auto Parts of Manning, South Carolina Rookie of the Year.
