2.13.19 Volusia Speedway Park Results

BARBERVILLE, FL — Feb. 13, 2019 — The #1 Rocket Chassis Dirt Late Model has always been a threat to win through the years at Volusia Speedway Park’s DIRTcar Nationals, and Brandon Sheppard proved its dominance again Wednesday night for his first World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series victory of the year.

While Sheppard was so smooth and mistake-free up front in the 50-lap, $10,000-to-win feature, it was a wild race behind him with cars charging and fading all night. Don O’Neal was as far back as 16th before mounting a surge to second, while former DIRTcar Nationals champion Josh Richards battled all race on top and bottom of the half-mile dirt oval to finish third. Chase Junghans’ hot start continued with a fourth-place run for his third top-five in three races, and Jonathan Davenport rounded out the top five by powering from 15th to fifth.

“The first win has been avoiding me for a long time it seems,” said Sheppard, the 2017 series champion from New Berlin, Ill. “We’ve got a great team and a great race car and we’ve been right there every night. We just haven’t had things fall quite our way. Finally, things are playing our way so hopefully we can keep it rolling.”

Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds: Billy Decker, Larry Wight and Billy Pauch put on a thrill-show to kick off the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds portion of the DIRTcar Nationals. Decker moved around the track looking for a fast lane to victory lane as he fended off Wight in the low groove and Pauch on the cushion. Wight and Pauch circled the half-mile almost side-by-side for the final 11 laps as they tried to find a way past Decker. Wight, the defending NAPA Super DIRT Week champion, wound up second with the legendary Pauch in third as Decker picked up the $2,000 win.
