2.8.19 USCS Sprints Results
Ocala, FL – February 8, 2019 – Sussex, New Jersey sprint car star “No Panic “Davie Franek raced to a career-first United Sprint Car Series (USCS) Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by K&N Filters in the USCS Winter Heat Series Round #3 25-lap main event at Bubba Raceway Park on Friday night. Franek had to best an international field of 44 drivers from 14 United States, Canada and England for his first victory of the 2019 season. The win placed him in the lead in the USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour National and USCS Deep South regional series point standings as well after a runner-up finish in the season opener at Hendry County Motorsports Park on January 25th.
Franek who started 4th in the FireAde 25-lap contest chased K&N Filters Pole Position starter and 2018 Sprint Car Hall of Fame 360 Sprint Car driver of the Year, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. from Rockwall, Texas for the first eleven-laps of the race before making the lead pass. He then held off Indiana’s Tony Stewart, who started in the fifth spot, over the final five laps to cross under the checkered flag in first place with Stewart in the runner-up spot and Hafertepe, Jr. followed in the K&N Filters Podium Award third place.
Fulton, New York’s Larry Wight followed the trio with a fourth-place finish. Sprint car racing veteran Wayne Johnson from Liberal, Kansas, who won the Schoenfeld Headers Second B-Main charged from the 16th starting position into fifth place at the finish.
New York transplant Justin Barger, who now resides in Cornelius, North Carolina, led the next group in sixth place. Ypung gun Dylan Westbrook from Scotland, Ontario, Canada, who was the 2018 Ohsweken Speedway Champion was seventh. Seth Bergman from Owasso, Oklahoma followed in eighth place to garner the Wilwood Disc Brakes “Hard Charger Award for the night after starting 20th in the A-Main. Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada sprint car racer, Thomas Kennedy was ninth. 2018 USCS Florida State Championship race winner, Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida rounded out the top ten drivers.
Danny Martin, Jr. kicked off the evening’s action by winning the USCS Hoosier Tire 6-lap Speed Dash. As mentioned, Justin Barger won the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Davie Franek won the Brown and Miller Racing Solutions Second Heat and three-time NASCAR Cup Serie Champion, Tony Stewart won the Butlerbuilt Third Heat. 2015 USCS Rookie of the Year, Nick Snyder from Marco Island, Florida won the FireAde 2000 Fourth Heat. Sunbury, Pennsylvania’s Mark Smith captured the flag in the Hero Graphics Fifth Heat and Larry Wight concluded the preliminary heats by winning the DHR Suspensions Sixth Heat.
Sam Hafertepe, Jr. was the passing points leader after qualifying heat race action. Hafertepe was award the K&N Filters Pole Position after Engler Machine and Tool First Heat winner Justin Barger drew a zero inversion in the pole award drawing. Seth Bergman was the evening’s Wilwood Disc Brakes “Hard Charger” after passing twelve cars in the main event. Conner Leoffler from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was the Radical Racewear Rookie of the Race.
