3.1.20 Southern All Star Late Models Results

Hoover, AL—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by MaxFab began it’s 37th year of dirt late model racing in the great state of South Carolina on March 1st and a face not seen in the SAS Victory Lane for 13 years was there. Chickamauga, GA driver and former Southern All Star champion Dale McDowell led all 60 laps of the Ginger Owens Memorial as the fans saw great racing between several drivers. Dale’s last All Star win came in 2007 at Talladega Short Track.

McDowell set fast time in SUNOCO Race Fuels/Knowles Race Parts qualifying on Sunday and then took the lead at the drop of the green for the 60 lapper and never looked back as he cruised too the win.

Michael Brown of Buford, South Carolina came home to a second place finish. Jonathan Davenport was 3rd , Casey Roberts 4th and Chris Madden rounded out the top 5.

6th place went to Kyle Hardy, 7th to Brandon Overton, 8th to Ross Bailes, 9th to Pearson Williams and rounding out the top 10 was Ashton Winger.

29 super late models signed in for the annual event at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S C before a jam- packed grandstands. Chamber of Commerce weather greeted the fans and the action on the track. Brown was the fastest qualifier in group one as that put him on the pole for the first heat race. McDowell was fastest in group 2 and he also was on the pole the 2nd heat race number 2.

Brown won heat 1 and that put him P1 for the feature. McDowell was winner of heat 2 and he would start on the outside pole. Heat 3 went to Casey Roberts which put him 2nd row inside and Davenport won heat 4 and completed the first 2 rows.

At the drop of the green flag a couple of cars got together including Chris Ferguson which brought out the red flag. Once the safety crew cleared the track, fans watched 60 green laps as the top 4 ran an uneventful race. Next race will be March 28 at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN $4,000.00 to win
