3.16.19 Marysville Raceway Park Results

Marysville, CA (March 16, 2019) – Chico’s Michael Ing picked up his first career winged 360 sprint car win Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Ing was solid all night. He was fast right out of the gate by turning the fastest lap in qualifying with a 12.833. He then went on to dominate his eight-lap heat race, until a mechanical issue slowed his car on the final lap, and he limped across the finish line in fourth. He lined up on the front row of the 25-lap main event and proceeded to lead all 25-laps to win his first career main event. He was very emotional after the win as he pulled his family owned No. 21 onto the front stretch, got out of the car and climbed to the top wing to salute the fans. It was great to see his crew and father David get to celebrate his first win together. Chasing him the entire event was Stephen Ingraham. At one point, Ingraham was trying so hard to keep up with Ing, that his No. 93 ended up providing the fans with an impressive wheelie going down the back stretch. Jake Haulot was solid all night and came home third. Brent Bjork drove up through the field and finished fourth. Korey Lovell started tenth and finished fifth. Seventeen cars were on hand for their first point show of the year.
Jim Waller led the first lap of the IMCA Pepsi Sport Mods during their 20-lap main event. On lap number two, a new driver emerged. Todd Cooper took the lead and never looked back. Cooper held off a significant charge from Phillip Shelby. Give these two drivers credit, as they battled for numerous laps and never banged wheels. Cooper credited David Pierce with giving him a competitive car. Guy Ahlwardt returned for a second week in a row and showed why he is one of the best in this division. Ahlwardt started 11th and used his skills to work his way up to a third-place finish. Last week’s winner Keith Brown brought his No. 128 home in fourth. Jason Ferguson stayed right around the top five all night and held on to a fifth-place finish. Fourteen cars entered the second point race of the season for the IMCA Pepsi Sport Mods.
Darren Johnson is becoming a familiar site in victory lane. Starting eighth, Johnson worked his way up to second late in the race. Mike Ballentine led the first 15 laps with ease. It was Ballentine’s best race of his career and looked poised to get his first win. Unfortunately, he spun in turn four on lap 16. This moved Kiely Ricardo into the lead. Johnson lined up behind her. On the restart, Johnson was able to get around Ricardo for the lead. Johnson pulled away and turned his fastest lap of the race on lap 18. Johnson held a 2.511 second lead at the checkered flag. Ricardo held on for a great second place finish. Bret Youngman had another solid night and finished third. Cameron Haney Jr. finished fourth and Nick Larson came home fifth.
Ryan McDaniel dominated the 20-lap Super Stock feature. McDaniel held an eight second lead at the checkered flag. Yet, the real race was for second. Brent Lawrence, Jerry Bartlett and James Castleberry all should be commended for a great race. Castleberry made one last hail marry going into the final turn of the final lap and ultimately spun around. Lawrence finished second. Bartlett came home in third. Richard Vander Ploeg finished fourth. George Magenheimer rounded out the top five.
