3.30.19 – 411 Motor Speedway Results

SEYMOUR, Tenn. (March 30, 2019) — Sometimes you’ve just got to “get up on the wheel and get the job done,” and that’s exactly what 411 Motor Speedway did Saturday night. With rain in the forecast, a combined effort between track officials and competitors in expediting running the seven division racing program allowed the completion of all racing action before precipitation began to fall.

Jason Welshan of Maryville captured the Crate Late Model victory, while Jake Whitehead of Maryville recorded the Sportsman Late Model win, with Shon Flanary of Surgoinsville bringing home the Open Wheel Modified victory.

Wayne Rader of Parrottsville captured the Modified Street victory, while Lee Merritt of Knoxville recorded the Classic win. Shawn Henry of Newport got the Street Stock victory, and Dustin Duncan of Oneida won the Front Wheel Drive feature.

The Crate Late Model feature was action-packed and worth the price of admission just itself. Jason Welshan earned the pole starting position for the 25-lap race with a fast-time of 14.732 seconds, with Trevor Sise close behind at 14.739.

Welshan grabbed the lead at the start, but behind him the field was jockeying for position running two- and three-wide around “Tennessee’s Action Track.” Fans were on their feet as Welshan, Sise, Cory Hedgecock, Mack McCarter, Rusty Ballenger, Jesse Lowe, Michael Smith, Devin Stuart, Terry Poore, Drew Kennedy, Josh Dietz, and Christian Hanger were battling for real estate. Caution waved on lap 7 when Scott Green got into the wall in turn three.

Off the ensuing double-file restart, Welshan was being chased by Hedgecock, Sise, McCarter and Ballenger. The caution waved for a second occasion on lap 14 for a hard crash on the front straightaway involving Smith and Mike Zeysing, with the red flag having to be displayed to allow emergency and track officials to work the altercation. Both drivers checked out OK, but their rides were badly damaged.

Welshan once again led Hedgecock and Sise back under green, but the event’s final caution waved on lap 20 when Cody Sisson and Adam Ahl spun, thus setting up a five-lap sprint to the finish.

With the laps winding down, Welshan was feeling pressure from Hedgecock, while behind them McCarter, Sise, Ballenger, Lowe, and the 15th-place starting Hanger were racing hard for position. On the white flag lap, Hedgecock drove off into the third turn giving it his best effort to get around Welshan. As they raced off the fourth turn to the flag stand, Welshan barely held Hedgecock off to capture the victory. Finishing third through fifth, respectively, were McCarter, Lowe and Sise. … Completing the top 10 finishers were Ballenger, Hanger, Kennedy, Dietz and Poore.

There’s a saying, “double your pleasure, double your fun.” If you ask Jake Whitehead, he’s having more fun than the law should allow. For the second straight week Whitehead parked in victory lane after winning the Sportsman Late Model feature. Qualifying for the 20-lap race saw the front row of Clyde Stanton fastest at 15.067 seconds, with Whitehead at 15.069. Whitehead jumped out into the lead at the start and led flag-to-flag in winning over Stanton, Adam Mitchell, Brad Seagle and Jed Emert.

Shon Flanary powered into the lead at start of the Open Wheel Modified feature and never looked back en route to capturing the victory over last week’s winner Jimmy Dalton. Finishing third through fifth, respectively, were Jeff Hamby and Wayne James.

Michael Woods had opened weekly racing this season by recording two consecutive Modified Street wins, but Wayne Rader was bound and determined to write another chapter in the book. Rader and Woods waged an epic battle, but Rader prevailed in capturing the victory over Woods, Dustin Ratliff, Eric Hux and Dwayne Fox.

Just call him “Mr. Perfect,” as Lee Merritt remains unbeaten in Classic action by capturing his third straight feature win. Merritt was chased to the checkered flag by Mac Lockhart, Will Carey, Shaun Sise and Richie Overholser.

Shawn Henry grabbed the lead at start of the Street Stock feature and cruised to his first win on the season over Steve Owens, Wendell Williams, Jason Rollins and Gary Sutton.

The trio of Dustin Duncan, Kevin Sexton and Dwight Shorter battled for position up front throughout the Front Wheel Drive feature, with Duncan capturing his first win on the season over Sexton, Shorter, JJ Patterson and Bryan Maston.
