Watsonville, CA – Campbell’s Bud Kaeding wheeled his father’s famous #69 sprinter to victory lane at the second Ocean Sprints race of the season Friday night. Kaeding showed the way early on over Justin Sanders of Aromas, but Lemoore’s Cole Macedo dove under Sanders to take the spot several laps in. Kaeding entered lapped traffic around the lap nine mark but managed it well and pulled away from an intense battle for second between Cole Macedo, Justin Sanders, and Carson Macedo. Bud Kaeding’s lead at the front evaporated with a lap 14 caution for Gilroy’s Ryon Nelson, who spun in turns three and four. On the restart, Kaeding pulled away from Cole Macedo, with Carson Macedo moving by Justin Sanders for third. The caution would wave for the second and final time when the car of Fresno’s Koen Shaw came to a halt on the backstretch on lap 18. This setup a 12 lap shootout with Kaeding ahead of the Macedo brothers, Justin Sanders, and Stockton’s Brad Furr. Bud Kaeding was able to once again pull away on the restart, but Justin Sanders was now in second as the Macedos knocked into each other in turn three. Kaeding had a sizable gap over Sanders, but Sanders methodically started to cut into Kaeding’s advantage as the laps waned. Sanders saw his opportunity and threw a slide job on Kaeding in turn one with two laps to go, but Kaeding was able to turn under Sanders and then drive away to collect his first Ocean Sprints win of the season. Sanders trailed Kaeding by less than half a second. Cole and Carson Macedo were able to recover from their collision to take third and fourth, with Brad Furr taking fifth. Morgan Hill’s JJ Ringo was Hard Charger, moving up six positions. Brad Furr set Quick Time with an 11.693 and Bud Kaeding and Cole Macedo won the pair of heat races. Kaeding also won the Dash.

San Jose’s Mark Biscardi took home top honors in the Dwarf Cars at their first race of the season. Biscardi started on pole, but relinquished the lead to Santa Cruz’s Terre Rothweiler on lap six. Rothweiler and Biscardi stayed close together with Los Banos’ Gene Pires Jr. and Campbell’s Eric Weisler trying to keep touch with the leaders. Rothweiler would catch a lapped car at the wrong time, giving Biscardi back the lead on lap nine. The two would remain close together the remainder of the feature, with Biscardi coming out on top by just a quarter of a second. Pires, Weisler, and Atwater’s Lonnie Tekaat completed the top five. Eric Weisler and Terre Rothweiler won the heat races.

The inaugural visit for the Western Midgets at Ocean Speedway was overall a great success. Fresno’s David Prickett picked up the win after a good battle between him, Clovis’ Dillon Tucker and Atascadero’s Randi Pankratz. Tucker started on pole and led the first 15 laps before getting out muscled by Prickett, who led the final five laps to claim the win. Dillon Tucker, in his first ever midget race, held on to second over Pankratz, with Jackson Dukes of Clovis and Hollister’s Adam Lemke completing the top five. Prickett also won the lone heat race.
