4.22.18 Port Royal Speedway Results

PORT ROYAL, Pa. – Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tennessee, continued his hot streak on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series by winning Sunday Night’s Rumble by the River at Port Royal Speedway.
Bloomquist took the lead on lap two of the 50-lapper and never looked back in scoring his series all-time leading 88th win, worth $10,000.
Bloomquist also moved to within five victories of his 600th career victory as his second LOLMDS win in the last three series races was the 595th of his Hall-of-Fame career.
Josh Richards fought back to finish in second with Earl Pearson Jr. taking third. Tim McCreadie and Darrell Lanigan, who started 12th completed the top five drivers.
Jimmy Owens led the first lap until Bloomquist, who started fourth on the grid wrestled the lead away from him.
Owens maintained the second spot until a coil spring broke on lap 17 ending his night. McCreadie then picked up the second spot as he and Richards then dueled it out for the runner-up position.
McCreadie and Richards went back-and-forth for the remainder of the race.
On a lap 38 restart though Richards got shuffled back a few spots as McCreadie took hold of the second spot. But Richards fought back regaining the second spot and when a caution came out with two laps to go he would get one last shot at Bloomquist, who had held a healthy lead for most of the 50-lap event.
Richards tried valiantly in the green-white-checker finish, but Bloomquist was just too strong as he held on for his first career win at Port Royal.
“We have run really well since Florida, last weekend we had a win and a second-place finish and this weekend a second and a win. The car, the engine, the shocks everything is working well,” said the 54-year-old in Lucas Oil Victory Lane.
“We had good rotation it carried around the high-line tonight. The car could work low, the middle or high. I tried to run up high in three and four because my momentum would be really good off the corner. When we had to go to the bottom to pass lapped cars we could..”
“This really is a great race track. We hadn’t had a victory here, but I really enjoyed running on it. There were a little bit of crumbs on the track early. It has a lot of character; you really have to be up on the wheel to drive this place. I think I figured out the high-line pretty good tonight.”
“We had a great car tonight; those restarts were very good for us,” said Josh Richards after finishing second.
“But we recovered and gave the Best Performance Team a good finish tonight. Last night at Hagerstown we had a rough night. We worked on some things today. If it could have gone caution free it might have been a different story. This place is so fun to drive on. Thanks to all the fans for coming out tonight. I wish we could race here tomorrow.”
It was a hard-fought third-place finish for Pearson.
“Josh and I had a good race for second there at the end,” said Person.
McCreadie and him (Josh) ran side-by-side there for a long-time. Thanks to everybody here at Port Royal and thanks to all the fans who came out on a Sunday Night to watch us race. This is a heck of a race track, wish we could do a two-day show here.”
Completing the top ten were 18th starting Jonathan Davenport, Bobby Pierce, Hudson O’Neal, Alex Ferree and Mason Zeigler.
Heats for the 43 cars in action went to Tim McCreadie, Jimmy Owens, Josh Richards and Scott Bloomquist.
Twin B Mains went to Hudson O’Neal and Jonathan Davenport.
Austin Hubbard set quick time with a lap of 19.179 seconds.
With the feature victory, Bloomquist became the 155th driver to win a late model feature in the history of Port Royal Speedway.
Jeremy Ohl ended up victorious in the companion Mason Dixon Shootout Series limited late model feature event, leading all 20 laps for the $1,000 victory.
Ohl withstood restarts on laps five, nine and 16 with Jim Yoder on his tail each time but Ohl proved the class of the field.
Brian Shuey battled from sixth starting spot to finish third although he lost the spot on a few occasions to Dillan Stake only to reclaim it.
Justin Weaver rounded out the top five.
Sixth through 10th went to Shaun Jones, Mike Walls, Chad Myers, 21st starter Devin Hart and Greg Moore.
Heats for the 38 limiteds went to Walls, Shuey, Jones and Jared Fulkroad with Hart claiming the consolation race.
