4.23.16 URSS Sprints Results
The 2016 URSS/IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Series Colorado Region kicked off at the Colorado Motorsports Park in Byers Colorado with eighteen teams checking in at the pit gate. A strong contingent of Colorado teams as well as some from the Kansas Region made the trek to the 3/8’s mile oval to ear the first IMCA Colorado State points in the Sprint Car division in decades.
Mike Taylor and Zac Taylor led the field to the green flag with Taylor charging into the lead with Mark Walinder, Mike Taylor, Jed Werner and Coby Pierce rounding out the top five at the end of lap one. Adam Trimble and Austin Mclean powered their way past Pierce with Brian Hardman in tow on lap two. Lap five saw the leaders start to catch lap traffic Zac Taylor put the lapped car of Ryan Oerter between himself and second place Walinder. Back in the pack Mclean recaptured the sixth position with Hardman and Zach Blurton on his heels.
Lapped traffic was still in play as Zac Taylor opened up a substantial lead on second place Walinder as the cagey veteran had to weave his way through to catch up to the leader. Farther back in the pack, Mike Taylor, Jed Werner, Adam Trimble, Austin Mclean and Zach Blurton were all battling for position with Mike Taylor holding down the third spot with Werner hot on his nerf bar. Werner closed the gap and took over the third spot on lap fourteen. Trimble held off Mclean for the fifth position while the battle for the sixth spot heated up with Blurton taking the position away from Mike Taylor on lap eighteen.
As the laps wound down it was Zac Taylor still on the point with Walinder, Werner, Trimble and Mclean rounding out the top five. When the checkers fell it was Zac Taylor taking his first win of the 2016 season and claiming the first IMCA Colorado State points.
Heat race winners: Mark Walinder, Adam Trimble and Zach Blurton. The Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger Award went to Adam Trimble, moving up 4 spots.
