Brody Roa extended his point lead in the Sands Chevrolet USAC Southwest Series by picking up his first win during the fifth event of the season for the club. John Parmeley became the first repeat winner of the year in the Arizona Differential Modifieds, making big gains on point leader Ryan Roath while Darin Center topped a full field of Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer Sport Mods. Robert Cody earned his third win of the year to remain undefeated in the Sport Compacts and Tyler Rodriguez picked up his first victory of the season in the Dwarf Cars

Jake Swanson kicked off the Sands Chevrolet USAC Southwest Series portion of the State 48 Classic, earning himself a quick time of 13.804 during time trials ahead of Matt Rossi (14.029) and RJ Johnson (14.101). Two heat races of sprint car action would see Mike Martin and Brody Roa leading the way into the 30 lap feature event. As the main rolled onto the track it would be Matt Lundy kicking things off from the pole, leading lap one before Stevie Sussex made his way around to lead the next five circuits from his front row starting position. Points leader Brody Roa quickly worked his way through the field from his 7th starting position finding himself quickly behind the race leader of Sussex. On lap 7 the winning move was made with Roa going around Sussex and not looking back. Sussex would maintain the runner up spot to the end of the race with 5th place starter Matt Rossi rounding out the podium. Charles Davis Jr and RJ Johnson would round out the top five for the feature while Hard Charger Andy Reinbold, making his first start of the year, grabbed the 6th position.

With 12 Arizona Differential IMCA Modifieds checked in for the evening, heat race action would kick off with John Parmeley and Ryan Roath both grabbing early wins. 2nd place in points Bubba Stafford was absent for the evening, leaving point leader Ryan Roath a chance to capitalize to make up points on the rest of the field. Luck was not on Roath’s side as he would struggle to an 8th place finish while John Parmeley, 3rd in points going into the evening, would be the one to take advantage, earning his second win of the year. Parmeley would lead all but the first lap en route to cutting Roath’s point lead in half. Guy Norton and Brenda Kirby round out the podium for the fifth modified event of the season.

A full field of Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer Sport Mods were on hand for the State 48 Classic with 21 cars taking the green flag in the feature. Three heat races of action would see Terry Bridges, Ron Poe and Speedy Madrid all taking wins. A caution plagued feature saw many cars work there way from deep in the field as Ron Poe led early, pacing the first three laps of the race. On lap 4, Darin Center would grab the lead from his 8th starting spot. As Darin would race away from the field to lead the final 12 laps, David Jones was busy earning Hard Charger of the race, making his way from 14th to 2nd. Taylor Kuehl would round out the top three, racing her way from the 9th starting position.

Another full field of Dwarf Cars made their way to CSP for their third race of the year at the facility. With Darren Brown not in attendance we would see a guaranteed first time winner for the season, and in the heat races it would be Cory Brown, John Foster and Tyler Rodriguez earning wins. As the feature rolled out, Dusty Jager would hop around the front row from his third starting spot to lead the first 13 circuits of the race. Pole sitter Cory Brown hung around the front of the pack but it would be Tyler Rodriguez racing his way around both leaders from 6th, leading the last 7 laps of the feature to earn his first win of the year. Jager and Brown would hold on to round out the podium.

Robert Cody earned himself another dominant night in the IMCA Sport Compacts, earning his third win on the season, remaining undefeated for the year. Cody would sweep both the heat race and the feature for the Sport Compacts with John Barron and Jackie Parmeley rounding out the top three in the five car field. Barron would lead the first five laps with Cody pacing the final ten and earning the Hard Charger award.
