4.28.18 Carolina Clash Late Models Results

Modoc, South Carolina (4/28/18) – 2017 Ultimate Super Late Model Series Champion Tyler Millwood from Kingston, Georgia held off a late race charge from Ross Bailes to capture the 8th Annual “Jack Starrette Memorial” Race at the Modoc Raceway in McCormick County community along the Savannah Lakes Region of South Carolina. Millwood had never experienced victory but took the checkered after surviving a lap 45 tangle after racing with Ross Bailes in lapped traffic. Millwood lost a portion of his nosepiece which found its way onto the backstretch forcing a caution, negating the pass from Ross Bailes who led entering the third turn. However, the caution put Millwood back in front, after a near disaster where he crashed into spinning cars of Jeff Smith and David Yandle after the caution had been waved. Brett Hamm was among the early hard chargers who while challenging for the lead made hard contact with a barrier tire along the inside of the racing surface, which caused major damage to the front of the #18, ending his bid for his second Modoc win.
Cla Knight was the Parks Heating and Cooling Fastest Qualifier and was among the top five for most of the event.
Michael Brown had problems in qualifying and started on the final row for the feature. He would race his way into the 10th position earning the Speed51.com Hard Charger of the Race and the $51 bonus for his efforts. Brown continues to lead the Carolina Clash point standings now over Ross Bailes, who with a strong second place finish sits in second.
CarQuest of Manning, South Carolina Rookie of the Year driver Adam Yarbrough resorted to a secondary car for the event after experiencing engine trouble following the Carolina Speedway event last Friday. He brought a CT525 powered car and scrapped out a 16th place finish.
Brent Dixon and Anthony Sanders were winners of the two heat races that determined the starting lineup for the 24 car field which paid tribute to Jack Starrette, a Carolina Clash Hall of Fame and major financial supporter of many teams who passed away in 2011.
The event was the first of two co-sanctioned events with the Ultimate Super Late Model Series. The next event will be the second event of the dual-series partnership on May 18, 2018 at the Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina.
