For the second week in a row the loyal fans of Tazewell Speedway were treated to the exciting and furious action that the 1/3 mile speedplant is know for. Limited Late Models were on showcase for the first time this season. Knoxville’s Jason Trammell was fast qualifier with a blistering lap of 11.676 seconds with Steve Smith of Powell only a few ticks behind with a lap of 11.883 seconds. Trammell would pull the three on the inver draw which put last year’s champion Clyde Overholt of Tazewell on the pole for the thity lap feature. With the drop of the green flag Overholt and Smith led the field storming into turn one. Smith would take the point going down the back stretch while Trammell was battling Overholt for second. Trammell would use the low groove to muscle his way past Overholt for the spot. With three laps in the books Trammell began pressuring Smith for the lead, diving low in the turn looking for a way to get inside of Smith’s door. Meanwhile Mike Weeks of Friendsville, who started fifth, was all over Overholt in a duel for third. For most of the race the crowd on hand was wowed as Trammell pulled even Smith and raced door to door with the wiley veteran. On lap twelve Weeks had caught up with the leaders and Trammell’s back bumper.
Throughout the middlle of the race Trammell didn’t give up on fighting Smith for the lead. Trammell pulled even with Smith several times and even swapped a little paint.
By lap twenty the leaders had caught up to the tail of the field. Trammell would go to the high groove knowing that it might be his chance to take the lead from Smith. As Smith was working to put Josh Sneed a lap down Trammell went to the outside in turn four to power his way into the lead. Trammell would lead the rest of the way for his first win of the 2019 campaign piloting the Trammell Construction Company, Fastlane Signs & Graphics, Charlie Brown Screen printing & Embroidery, Dents R Us Paint & Collision Repair, Brian King Roofing, Hatmaker Holdings, Lake City Tire, Discount Parts City, R&J Signs sponsored, Vic Hill Racing Engine powered Rocket XR-1 Race Car.

Both cars would sustain heavy damage and not continue.
With the track cleared and the field reset Sneedville’s Jason Sizemore would inherit the outside pole position. As the field came out of four to take the green Sizemore would fire early and bring out the caution. As drivers were scrambling to slow down the cars of Justin James, Phillip Nichols and Jonathan Miracle would collide in turn one.
With the melee cleared it was time to get to some green flag racing. McMahan would take the point trailed by Sizemore, James Parrott of Rutledge and Morristown’s Michael Boyd. Riding the momentum from last Saturday after winning the Modified Street feature, David Clark of Tazewell set fast time in qualifying and drew the one on the invert draw. Clark would quickly grab the lead on the first lap followed by Morristown’s Gary Blanken, Kurt Owens of Newport and Austin Atkins of Morristown. By lap seven Blanken had closed the gap and on the next lap they pair had caught up to the end of the field. After navigating his way through lap traffic Clark began putting distance between himself and Blanken.
The caution flag would fly on lap twelve as Bob Petty’s car lost a driveshaft on the front stretch. On the restart Owens was all over the back bumper of Blanken, pressuring him for the third spot. Blanken’s car began getting loose in the turns and on lap fourteen the car veered into the outside wall in turn four and flipping several times. After a few tense moments Blanken emerged from the car and gingerly walked away. Clark would lead the rest of the way to make it two-in-a row in the Big Cheese Motorsports,Slim & Trim Weight Loss Center, Sam’s Trucking, Shorty’s Shock Service, Gatos Tacos, Kiddieland Daycare, Earl Heating & Air Chevy Camaro.

The wild action didn’t stop with the Classic Car feature as twelve of the region’s best signed in. Last week’s winner Hayston Collett of Harlan, KY turned in the fastest lap in qualifying yet drew the three on the invert draw. This would put Maynardville’s Quincy Arnwine and Richie Overholser of Corryton on the front row of the twenty lap feature.Taking the green flag Arnwine jumped into the lead with Overholser and Collett giving chase. The caution would fly on lap five for the overheating car of Chris Worsham. On the ensuing restart the top three were nose-to-tail. On the next lap Arnwine would slide high in turn two allowing Overholser to peek inside. Two laps later Arwine would once again slide up with Overholser diving low and looking for a way to take the lead away.
While this was going on Collett was preparing his charge to the front. On lap eleven Collett slipped around the outside line to take second away from Overholser. Using the momentum Collett would pull even with Arnwine at the stripe on the next lap. Long was holding a strong lead for the first half of the feature yet disaster would strike on lap twelve. While Long was storming into turn one his right rear wheel broke loose, shot high in the air and landed in the infield.
