5.1.21 Red Clay Late Model Series Results

Dylan Knowles topped a talented field of 29 entries on Saturday night to register the $1,000 victory in the 2021 season opener for the Red Clay Series 602 Late Models.

The Red Clay Series went to Senoia Raceway to kick of the season for the Southern region. We had 30 cars sign-in for the evenings action. As the cars to took to the track for hot lap/qualifying (consolidated for time) you feel the excitement in the air of the recently revamped facility under new ownership.

Cass Fowler set fast time in Group 1 with a time of 16.401. Dylan Knowles was fastest in group 2 and the overall fast qualifier with a time of 16.169.

Wiley McDaniel picked up heat 1 win with Jamie Nicholas Jr. and Hunter Worley rounding out the top 3.

Braxtin Barber picked up heat 2 win with Morgan Alexander and Mike Weed rounding out the top 3.

Dylan Knowles picked up heat 3 with Timothy Smith and Mike Bruner rounding out the top 3.

Brandon McDaniel picked up the final heat win with Griffin Alexander and Dustin Diem rounding out the top 3. With the attrition from the heats and other incident the B Main was scratched for the night and Jake Green took a provisional to complete the lineup for the A Main. Wiley McDaniel led the field into the C & S Auto Electric start box to bring the field to the green. Jamie Maurice spun in turn one. The field doubled back up and tried again. This time the field got a lap in before John Strickland spun in turn 1. On the third attempt to start the race Hunter Worley slowed on the back stretch bringing out the caution again. The field returned to green flag action for the next 19 laps with Dylan Knowles striking out with a commanding lead and working his way through lap traffic with ease lapping up to 10th when the next caution came out. The rest of the field stayed bunched together with slid jobs, door slams and some suggestive bumping.

On lap 22 spun in turn 4 bringing out the caution again. On the restart the 11 of Griffin Alexander would spin in turn 2 collecting several cars. Once the field returned to green flag racing they would see one more caution when Olivia Gentry made contact with another car, sending her into the wall and ultimately end her night. This set up a green, white and checkered finish. Dylan Knowles again asserted his dominance on the remaining laps to claim his second win with the Red Clay Series.
