It was a brisk Spring evening on Friday, May 10th as drivers, fans and pit crews gathered for another great night of racing at Dacotah Speedway.
ROOKIE EARNS FIRST CAREER VICTORY IN IMCA SPORT COMPACTS
Pole sitter Alex Thompson led the field to the green flag in the IMCA Sport Compact feature. Thompson led the first lap before getting too high off turn two and making contact with backstretch outer guardrail. On the restart, Ken Sandberg and rookie Braydee Hanson made contact battling for the lead. Cautions came early and often which led to many Sport Compacts ending their night early due to mechanical failure or severe car damage. On the final restart of the night, it was a three car battle for the lead between Sandberg, Hanson and Thompson. Hanson shuffled into the lead and started to pull away from second place Thompson. Sandberg, meanwhile, fell into the clutches of Andy Reed and they briefly raced side by side. When the checkered flag waved, Andy Reed held off Ken Sandberg for third place. Stan Thompson crossed the finish line in fifth while Braydee Hanson found victory lane for the first time of his racing career over second place Alex Thompson.
HAGEN HANGS ON FOR DACOTAH SPEEDWAY VICTORY
After a complete restart in the Hobby Stocks, Kyle Hagen grabbed the lead while Terry Davenport and Chris Welk Jr raced side by side for second. Cautions came often but Hagen held on as Davenport and Welk continued to battle. When Davenport cleared Welk for position with five laps to go, Welk, Nathan Messer and A.J. Davenport raced three wide for third. As the laps wound down, Davenport started to close in on leader Hagen. A late race caution ended the race two laps early as the Hobby Stocks exceeded their time limit. Race officials declared Kyle Hagen the victor over Terry Davenport. Chris Welk finished third ahead of A.J. Davenport and Nathan Messer.
RACING VETERAN RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE AT DACOTAH SPEEDWAY
Bismarck’s Austin Wiest grabbed the lead in the INEX Legend feature. Wiest led the first couple laps before veteran driver, Ivan Sailer, chased down the leader. They briefly raced side by side until Sailer slipped by on lapt hree. As Wiest fell into the clutches of Mike Dowling, it was a three car battle for fourth between Donavin Wiest, Casey Martin and Drew Papke. Donavin Wiest grabbed the fourth position and quickly reeled in Dowling as he started to fade through the field, losing positions to Donavin Wiest, Papke and Martin. With only a few laps remaining, Austin Wiest started to close back in on Sailer. As they raced side by side for the win, it allowed Donavin Wiest to make it a three car battle. With one lap to go, the leaders raced door to door but when the checked flag waved, it was Ivan Sailer who found victory lane for the first time since 2015 over Austin Wiest. Donavin Wiest finished third while Drew Papke held off Casey Martin for fourth.
DOSCH CAPTURES FIRST CAREER WISSOTA VICTORY
Outside pole sitter Brad Kadrmas grabbed the lead from pole sitter Nathan Messmer in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature. Kadrmas pulled away early as Messmer, Jeremy Engelhardt and Scott Gartner raced three wide for second. An early caution allowed Matt Dosch to power into the lead as Kadrmas struggled to stay within the top five. Jeremy Keller, reeled in Dosch for the lead and they raced side by side until a caution with nine laps to go regrouped the field. On the restart, Keller was all over Dosch’s rear bumper but could not complete the pass. As they raced hard for the win, it allowed Kadrmas to reel in the leaders. Kadrmas passed Keller with two laps to go and quickly caught Dosch. As the white flag waved, Brad Kadrmas threw it hard into the corners but Matt Dosch held on to find victory lane for the first time in his WISSOTA Street Stock career. Jeremy Keller settled for third while points leader John Weber held off Jeremy Engelhardt for fourth.
WOLLA GOES BACK-TO-BACK AT DACOTAH SPEEDWAY
Andrew Bargmann and Rusty Corneliusen started on the front row of the IMCA Modified feature. Corneliusen led the first couple laps before Jason Wolla muscled his way into the lead on lap three. Jeremy Keller passed Corneliusen for second, bringing Myles Tomlinson and Tom Berry with him. Wolla’s large lead started to shrink, as Keller turned some of the fastest laps on the track and was starting to close in on Wolla. Caution with 13 laps to go reset the field but once more Wolla pulled away. With only a few laps remaining, Keller cut into Wolla’s lead and challenged for the win until the yellow flag waved once more with three laps to go. On the final restart of the night, Jason Wolla held off Jeremy Keller to win back-to-back races at Dacotah Speedway. Myles Tomlinson hung on to finish third over Tom Berry while Mark Dahl rounded out the top five.
