5.12.21 Lincoln Speedway Results

Abbottstown, PA (May 12, 2021) – The 2021 battle between the PA Posse and the World of Outlaws kicked-off at Lincoln Speedway Wednesday night with the Gettysburg Clash. The most exciting rivalry in sprint car racing did not disappoint in front of a packed house in the pigeon hills. Despite starting on the front row of the 35-lap feature, it was not an easy path to victory for Brad Sweet. Sweet settled in behind Donny Schatz on the start and fell back to third mid-race before avoiding a miscue by a lapped car that held up the leader, Brent Marks. Sweet’s victory was his first at Lincoln.

Looking to score his 300th World of Outlaws win, Donny Schatz started on the pole for the Gettysburg Clash. Sweet made it an all-Outlaw front row. Lance Dewease and Anthony Macri represented the PA Posse in row 2.

Schatz had the advantage over Sweet going into turn 1. Sweet had to hold off Dewease who was challenging for second. Sweet pulled away leaving Dewease to fend off a charge by Macri for third. Macri took the spot before the red flag came out on lap 3 for Chad Trout.

Schatz elected to restart on the inside for the double-file restart. Robbie Kendall spun in turn 2 bringing out the yellow on the restart.

The field lined-up single file behind Schatz for the restart. Schatz got a good jump on the start. Dewease raced side-by-side with Marci to get third back. Macri had his sights set on Sweet for second though. Sweet moved up the track to use the high side to keep Macri at bay and Dewease used the bottom in turns 3 and 4 to get back by Macri for third. As Dewease was reeling in Sweet smoke started to pour out of the blue and orange #69K. Dewease stopped on the track bringing out the yellow flag on lap 8.

Once again Schatz elected to restart on the inside. Carson Macedo made a move to get by Marci on the restart and Brent Marks made a charge to the front of the field as well. Macri got back by Macedo and Marks before the caution came out to hold onto third. The lap 9 caution was for Jacob Allen.

Macri looked to the inside of Sweet for second as Marks got by both of them to move into third. Sweet reeled in Schatz to take the lead coming out turn 4 on lap 12. Schatz battled back to take the lead back at the line on lap 13.

Lapped traffic loomed ahead of the leaders at the half-way point of the race. The top three, Schatz, Sweet and Marks, were racing under a blanket for the lead as they caught the tail end of the field.

Marks took second from Sweet coming out of turn 2 and quickly went to work on Schatz in traffic for the lead. He took the top spot with ten laps to go. Schatz stayed close and battled hard with Marks to try and get the lead back to score his 300th Outlaw win. As Sweet was looking to take second from Schatz, a lapped car bobbled in front of Marks. Marks avoided the lapped car, but in doing so fell back to fourth. Sweet took advantage of the situation and darted to the lead ahead of both Schatz and Marks. Macri also capitalized on the situation, making his way to second.

Marks charged back to the front of the field as the laps wound down and was back to second with three laps to go. Marks reeled in Sweet using the bottom but ran out of time to reclaim the lead.

Sweet claimed his first Lincoln Speedway win .251 seconds ahead of Marks. Macri finished third and David Gravel crossed the line fourth. Schatz completed the top five.

Sweet might have had the second-best car but as he shared in victory lane, “A wins a win, especially in Central Pennsylvania.” Receiving both cheers and jeers from the crowd Sweet also had this to say after his Outlaw win, “That’s what it’s all about it’s about these crowds, putting on a show for these fans we appreciate them whether they’re cheering or booing.”
