(Modoc, South Carolina) 5/14/16 – The Cart Barn of Evans, GA was the title sponsor of the $4000 Carolina Clash show at Modoc Raceway, the first time the series had been at the McCormick, South Carolina facility in nearly 10 years. The track is operated by Jim and Ann Cushman of Evans, Georgia. Mr. & Mrs. Cushman have revived the 4/10 mile oval located along the banks of the Savannah River in rural McCormick County, SC and are turning the place into a gem of racing. A new clay surface was worked in the previous weeks and appears to have made a huge impact in the upgrades being done there.
The race was terrific as Brett Hamm of Newberry, SC scores his first Carolina Clash win. The driver of the #18 Longhorn is powered by Hamm Automotive and sponsored by John Page Racing, Stokes-Trainor Chevrolet-Buick-GMC, Wilson Tractor Company and Hamm Automotive.
Brian Ligon of Evans, GA was the fastest qualifier of the event but was relegated to the rear after a spin on lap three. Brett Hamm took the lead on the opening lap from the outside front row and held off charges from Johnny Pursley of Clover, SC to secure his first Clash win, leading all 40 laps. The event featured tight battles for the lead and for third place between Ross Bailes and Casey Roberts, with all of the teams battling the new clay at Modoc.
The Carolina Clash would like to dedicate this event and the remainder of the 2016 season to the memory of Nancy Bennett, wife of Carolina Clash VIP Gary “Spud” Bennett. Mrs. Nancy entered the eternal kingdom on Thursday morning after a struggle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family at this very tough time.
