5.18.19 Canyon Speedway Park Results

John Cornell picked up his second win of the season, earning himself the outright points lead in the SWDRA Late Model Series while John Parmeley raced his way to a green to checker win in the Arizona Differential IMCA Modifieds. Chase Rudolf continued his domination in the Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer Sport Mod division while Joe Vlasity found himself back in victory lane during the Desert Restorations Hobby Stocks. Dustin Washburn rounded out the night in his familiar spot in CSP Victory Lane during the Dwarf Car feature event.

Coming into the night tied, John Cornell and Craig Parker found themselves in a showdown for the win to see who would wind up with the points lead as the series made their stop at CSP. Early in the night, Parker bested Cornell in the first heat race while Bruce Duckett beat Bud Grossenbacher for heat race number two. With the field starting straight up from their heat race finishes, Parker would take advantage of his starting pole position. 19 circuits would tick off with Parker heading up the field ahead of Cornell before a broken axle sidelined the leader. Cornell would take over to lead the final 6 laps of the night, earning himself the feature win ahead of Steve Stultz, Grossenbacher, Duckett and Lee Hoy. The win would give Cornell a 6 point lead over Craig Parker as the series continues on through the early summer.

Arizona Differential Modifieds checked in 17 cars on the night with Jay Foster, Guy Norton and John Parmeley all earning heat race wins to kick off their portion of the Duel at the Diamond. Point leader Ryan Roath had issues in the heat race, earning himself the 17th starting spot in the field for the feature event. John Parmeley would get the jump on the field, going from 6th to 1st before the first lap would be completed. With Parmeley racing to the early lead, Roath had his work cut out for himself to keep his gap in the points lead. While Parmeley continued to knock off the laps, Roath found himself all the way up into the top three, creating a three car battle for the lead with Parmeley and the other hard charging Bryson Curry (12th starting spot). Parmeley would hold off his challengers, earning the win ahead of Curry and Roath with Guy Norton and Nate Warren rounding out the top five.

Another full field of Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer Sport Mods took to CSP for the Duel at the Diamond, with 18 cars checked in. Ron Poe, Speedy Madrid and Tony Miller would earn the three heat race wins to kick off the show. As the feature event began, lead changes were abound with Tony Miller kicking things off from the pole position. Miller would lead the first lap, exchanging with Terry Bridges for lap two and taking it back for lap three. On lap six the defending champion Madrid worked his way into the lead for his turn to pace the field. Finally, Rudolf who started back in the 10th position, raced his way to a battle for the lead, earning the top spot as lap 9 was put in the books. Rudolf would go on to lead the rest of the race, earning his fourth win of the season ahead of Madrid, Miller, Darin Center and Poe.

Desert Restorations Hobby Stocks found 12 cars checked in for their portion of the event at CSP with Joe Vlasity and Bradley Stafford both picking up heat race wins. Kicking off the race from the pole, Chandler Dodge would earn his first lap led of his career, while Joe Vlasity worked his way up from the second row. Vlasity would lead lap two before racing away to his first win of the year. Joe Peterson and Bradley Stafford battled for the runner up spot behind Vlasity with Peterson earning the second spot at the checkered flag. Jeff Stafford Sr and Kyle Cardinal would round out the top five while Vlasity became the third different winner in three races on the season.

The Dwarf Car division saw 11 cars check in for racing action at CSP with Dusty Jager and most recent feature winner Tyler Rodriguez picking up heat race wins. Jager would start things out from the pole, leading the first 5 laps of the feature event before giving way to Cory Brown. Brown looked to have a hold on the race as he led through lap 15 before constant CSP contender Dustin Washburn made his challenge. Washburn would snag the lead away from Brown, leading the final 5 laps of the feature en route to his first win of the 2019 season at CSP. Washburn picked up the win ahead of Brown, Rodriguez, Jager and former champion John Foster.
