5.18.19 Tyler County Speedway Results

With a month of frustrating rainouts in the rear view mirror, Tyler County Speedway roared back into action with the fan favorite, 6th annual ‘Pack the Track Night’. Fans filled the grandstands, enjoying an evening of free racing, courtesy of the Hometown Racing Association and the racers did their part, bulging the pit area to the tune of 121 competitors.

The annual ‘Tammy Clegg Tribute Race’ for the ‘Sigler Fabrication presented by Dave Poske Performance Parts EDGE Hot Mod division headlined the evening’s festivities. Jordan Shaffer led the race until near the mid-point, when defending class champion Danny Thomas found an open lane to take the position. Early season standout Steven Dotson followed suit shortly afterwards and began to pressure Thomas and was soon joined by a fast closing Thomas Sigler. The laps clicked out quickly in the nearly caution free event but ‘Dynamite’ Danny Thomas proved unshakable in earning his first feature win of the 2019 season. Dotson turned back Sigler’s constant pressure as those drivers earned podium finishes. Mick Baker, Roland Bell and Scott Moore, the event’s hard charger after earning his starting position with a B-main win, followed.

For 5 circuits in the J&R Excavating presented by Midcap Land and Timber Late Model main, Keystone state standout Keith Barbara and young gun Tyler Stutler looked to decide the win between themselves. The lead duo had broken away from the pack when disaster struck. Hard pressing the tail of the field, a spinning lapped car collecting the lead duo bringing out the Cam Safety caution flag and turning the race upside down when the melee eliminated leader Barbara and Stutler. Kyle Thomas was the benefactor and didn’t waste the gift, turning back the hard charging Tyler Evans in his first Bullring Late Model appearance by a narrow margin of 0.344 seconds at the checkered flag. Derek Doll, Travis Brown and Steve Weigle rounded out the top 5.

It’s apparent that the MEGA event is near! A stout 36 car field of UMP modifieds put on the finest racing of the young season in getting a tune-up in prior to one of Modified racing’s biggest national events. Gerald Deitch, back in action for the first time since a devastating 2018 early season crash, led early in the 20 lap main with Kenny Johnson pressuring at every turn. Deitch’s fine run ended when his engine expired at the race midpoint and Johnson inherited the lead upon the restart. From the remaining laps, he and now second place Jesse Wisecarver went at it in a side by side, no quarters asked or given thriller. With sometimes five wide racing going on behind the lead duo, the fantastic lead battle had the capacity crowds attention rivetted to who would wrestle the lead away the final time. Johnson proved his ‘Worth the Price of Admission’ moniker to be truth in advertising as he turned back Wisecarver in the race of the night. Young Coleman Evans and former Hillbilly 100 winner Eddie Carrier Jr charged through the field from 14th and 15th starting positions and Josh Tonkin turned in a strong effort to complete a stellar top 5.

‘The Mad Mexican’ Troy Frazier garnered his first feature win of 2019 with a flag to flag run in the FASTRAK Late Models. Frazier had a method to his madness in holding off always tough Donnie Dotson in the 20 lapper. Wiley Ford turned in his finest effort of the young season with a solid 3rd place finish, with Ryan Payne and an improving Tiffany Jackson making up the top five finishers.

Jeff Fornash debuted a new car that was set on go all evening, dominating the Mod-Lite division main event and foiling early season hot shoe John Cogar’s efforts for a three-peat. Cogar was the bridesmaid with Mitch Ward, Daniel Eddy and Zak Kimbrew in tow at the checkers.

In the growing Bullring Bomber division it was Mike Baker grabbing his first win of the early season ahead of Jason Tidd and previous feature winner Bill Doll.

It was a Casto sweep in the Jenkins Auto Parts MWRA Mini Wedges. Geoge Casto III would notch his first win of the season in the Senior division over previous winner Ryan Hare and Ethan McCune. In the Junior division it was Jake Casto picking up the checkers ahead of Carson Thomas and Keith Powell.

Be sure to join us next Memorial Weekend for a special Sunday Night, May 26th Battle @ the Bullring! The RUSH Series comes to town with the RUSH Sprint Series and RUSH Modified Tour along with the 9th Annual $1,000 to win Modlite Pat Herrick Memorial plus the Steel Block Late Models will shootout for $1,500 to win Summer Shootout Event #1 and the UMP Modifieds will be vying in a Mega Qualifier event.
