Winchester, VA- Tyler Emory scored the biggest win of his career in last Saturday nights 30-lap Mason Dixon shootout Series sanctioned event at Winchester Speedway. The win for Emory, Worth $1500, would be the first of his career at Winchester and the MDSS series and it came steering his Adams/Quade owned Rocket no.23.
Taylor Farlling and Devin Frey made up the front row for the initial green flag of the event with Frey gaining the lead as the field zipped off turn two. Frey lead the first 5-laps before 5th starting Jonathan DeHaven blew in and took control. DeHaven was on a rail as he lead effortlessly until a caution slowed his pace on the 19th lap. On the ensuing restart DeHaven and Derick Quade, who got to 2nd on the 16th tour, tangled going into turn one ending both of their nights. Frey regained the lead for the 2nd time and lead until 9th starting Tyler Emory became the third and final race leader on the 24th lap. Emory would eventually hold the spot to the finish but would have to shake a pesky Donnie Farlling to preserve the win. “This is incredible!” Emory stated in victory lane. “We had a good car tonight and some circumstances fell our way and it’s awesome to get our first Winchester win.” Superior track conditions aided Emory in his winning drive. “This is the best I’ve ever seen this place.” Emory quipped. “I want to dedicate this win to my mother, shes not feeling very well but I’m glad she came tonight and this win is for her.” Donnie Farlling was pleased with his runner-up performance. “We’ve struggled the past few weeks and to get a second with all the good cars here tonight, this is like a win for us.” Defending series champion Justin Weaver drove form his 19th starting spot to take a podium finish. “We got behind with the pill draw tonight, but we had a good car and to come home 3rd is a really good run for us.” Taylor Farlling and 13th starting James Lichliter rounded out the top-five. Taking heat race wins over the 36-car field were, Trever Feathers, Dylan Lewis, Taylor Farlling and Bruce Kane with Chuck Schutz taking the B-Main.
Current point leader Mike Corbin wired the field for his 3rd win of the season in the 20-lap Mid Atlantic Modified feature. Corbin shot from the pole and would lead the distance, but would have to fend off a relentless Brad Kling to score the win. “This has been an awesome season so far and I hope we can keep it going.” Rick Hulson was third with Mark Jones and Cody Williams completing the top-five. Heats for the 24 entries went to Kyle Lloyd, Mike Corbin and Mark Jones.
In other action, Rob Nichols became the 5th different winner of the season with his first win of 2019 in the 15-lap Pure Stock feature and after a six-year journey, Dalton Dillman drove the race of his career to take his first ever Winchester feature win in the 15-lap Enduro Stock main.
