5.23.20 Potomac Speedway Results

Budds Creek, MD- Potomac Speedway promoter/general manager Denise Hollidge rolled the dice and became the first track in Maryland to hold their respective season opener as the venerable Southern Maryland oval held it’s first event since October of 2019. Hyndman Pa.’s Drake Troutman was glad she did as he rolled to a dominating win in the 35-lap “Ernie Jones Memorial” Late Model event. The win for Troutman, steering his Smith Transport Rocket no.7, was the Keystone state teenagers first ever Potomac feature and was worth a cool $2522 payday.
Troutman drew the pole for the feature and made the most of his good fortune as he shot into the lead on the first lap. Jason Covert dogged Troutman for the first 22-laps before 5th starting Dale Hollidge arrived in second and ran down Troutman. The youngster never folded as Hollidge pulled alongside Troutman on several occasions as the laps wound down but would settle for runner up honors as Troutman romped to the win in his first ever Late Model start at the track. “There are so many good cars here tonight and its awesome to win against these guys.” The happy winner stated in victory lane. “I knew Dale was there and he made it tough for us because my tires were starting to go away, but he raced me clean and we were able to get the win.” Covert settled for third with Donald Lingo Jr. and Andy Anderson rounding out the top-five. Heats went to Covert and Lingo.
Ray Kable Jr. scored a flag to flag feature win in the 20-lap E-Mod main. Kable darted from the pole to the race lead and was never seriously challenged as he scored his 2nd career Potomac feature win. “This is a new car for us this season and it ran pretty good.” Kable remarked afterward. “I have to thank my father and all our sponsors, we wouldn’t be here without them.” Rick Hulson, Mike Franklin, Dale Smith and Mike Corbin trailed at the finish. Heats went to Corbin and Hulson.
In support class action, Michael Carter scored his first career Potomac win in the 20-lap Street Stock feature, Greg Morgan scored his first of the season and career 10th in the 15-lap Hobby Stock event with Shawn Payne also becoming a first time Potomac winner with his victory in the 15-lap U-Car nightcap.
