5.24.19 MOWA Sprints Results

Returning to Jacksonville Speedway for the second scheduled event of 2019, the Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Cars Delivered by Morrow Brothers Ford, Inc. put fans on the edge of their seat during the 25 Lap A-Main event. Fast qualifier Joey Moughan, led the field to the green with Terry Babb to his outside. The field slowed for a multi-car accident in turns three and four on the first lap, resulting in Cory Bruns flipping his #44 machine, as four other competitors were caught up in the accident. All drivers, excluding Bruns were able to rejoin the field. Just a short handful of laps later, a second caution involving three drivers who spun in turn three slowed the field once again.

Veteran Terry Babb had gained the lead and was in control of the field heading back to green flag action on a lap six restart. Babb had command of the race, while Joey Moughan, Paul Nienhiser and Joe B. Miller battled each other for the second spot. Once more, the field was slowed for a yellow as Dustin Barks’ no. 22 came to a stop at the top of turn three.

Babb continued to show his dominance over the field, as racing action resumed. A hard charging Nienhiser had worked his way to second, and made a pass for the lead off of turn two, only to be overtaken by Babb halfway down the backstretch. Joey Moughan, running third, saw his night come to end after falling victim to the cushion in turn four, when he collided with the wall, bringing out the last caution on lap 18.

Babb knew that he had to protect his territory as Nienhiser was in striking distance. Fortunately, for Nienhiser, he was able to find some traction on the restart and worked past Babb, entering turn one on the highside. Nienhiser never looked back over the remaining seven laps of the feature as he picked up his second win of 2019 with the MOWA Sprint Cars, his fourteenth career victory.

“This feature was one of those where you definitely had to stay out of trouble, the leaders had a couple close calls. The track was pretty dominant so I knew whenever somebody would move, I needed to be in the right place at the right time – and tonight I was,” Nienhiser said.

Coming Up: The MOWA Sprint Car Series will make their first appearance of 2019 at Macon Speedway, next Thursday, May 30
