RockAuto.com Night at Lakeside Speedway featured 58 drivers on hand in the six competing classes on a near-perfect Kansas City weather night for racing on the river’s edge.
All drivers competed in heat races with the passing points method and a redraw for each of the classes to determine main event lineups. Marshall Jewett of Gardner drove to the Factory Stock heat win while Terry Bivins out of Lebo took command of the Grand National heat. E-Mods competed in a pair of heats with Billy Spilman of Rushville, Mo., and Tim Billings of Liberty, Mo., grabbing the wins.
Kevin Anderson advanced from the third row to win the USRA Stock Car heat race. Tim Powell of Lansing and Nick Newton of Kansas City picked up the USRA B-Mod wins. Heat race action closed out with the USRA Modifieds and Gunner Martin dominating for a heat race victory over Kerry Davis.
When drivers returned to action for the main events it was Jewett who captured his fourth consecutive victory in the Factory Stocks by nearly a full straight-away advantage. Don Marrs of Shawnee drove to his second Grand National victory this season by pulling away from the rest of the field over the second half of the race, and Billings returned to victory lane for the first time since 2012 by taking the victory in the E-Mods.
“Coach” Anderson collected his second win of the season in USRA Stock Car action while Powell grabbed his fifth win of the season in USRA B-Mods. In USRA Modified action, Edwardsville driver Mark Schafman dedicated his win to the late Don Burlington in an emotional victory lane celebration.
Next Friday, June 1, weekly racing resumes with the Gary D Super Stock Race featuring USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods, plus Grand Nationals, Factory Stocks and E-Mods. When at the track, tune your radio dial to 87.7 FM for a radio broadcast of all the action.
