Abbottstown, PA (May 25, 2019) – Brian Montieth’s 63rd win at Lincoln wasn’t an easy one. Montieth lined up eighth as Trey Hivner and Cole Young led the field to the green flag.
Hivner took the lead as the green flag dropped with Young settling into second. Chase Dietz got around Tim Glatfelter on the first lap for fourth.
Ft. Myers, Florida native, RC Roper, pulled in on lap 3. Lap 3 also saw Adam Wilt move into fifth moving Glatfelter back to sixth.
By lap 4 Montieth had made his way up to sixth from his eighth starting spot.
Hivner hit lapped traffic on lap 5 with Young closing in. Once Hivner put the first car a lap down he created some space between Young. It didn’t take Young long to close the gap but his run to take over first was put on hold when the caution came out on lap 8 for Barry Shearer when he got spun around in turn 2. Shearer rejoined the field.
Hivner led the field to the cone for the restart with Young, Glenndon Forsythe, Dietz and Montieth in line behind him.
Hivner got a good start and left Young to battle Forsythe for second. Forsythe tried the outside and nearly made it work with Young beating him back to the flag stand by inches. The next time around Young held onto second by a car length having created some space between Forsythe.
Montieth got around Forsythe for third on lap 11 and started to go to work on Young for second with Hivner 2.5 seconds out in front of the battle.
The battle for second caught up with Hivner with 10 laps to go as he tried to get around a lapped car. The top three were running within a second of each other.
Young tried a slide job for the lead on lap 19 in turns 3 and 4. Montieth managed to get under both Young and Hivner with one move in turn 4 during their battle for first to take the lead. The slide job worked as Young got around Hivner, holding on to second with Hivner falling back to third.
Montieth beat Young to the checkered flag by 1.337 seconds for his 63rd victory in the pigeon hills. Hivner held onto third. Glenndon Forsythe crossed the line fourth and Adam Wilt finished fifth.
Heat winners were Trey Hivner and Glenndon Forsythe.
Jeremy Ott Wins Rain Shortened Legends Feature
Jeremy Ott and Bill Diehl shared the front row of Saturday night’s feature. Ott got out to the lead with Diehl trying to make the outside work to take the lead. Before the first lap was complete the caution came out. Austin Bellemare, Cory Phillips, Rick Hartwig, Chandler Pagnotta and Tony Mrakovich got caught up in turns 3 and 4. Jorjie Sweger came to a stop on the front stretch.
The field lined up for a complete restart. This time Diehl made the outside work and got the lead on the start. Ott was close and all over Diehl for first.
Travis McClelland was up to fourth from his ninth starting spot on lap two. On the next lap McClelland got by Bill Diehl for third going into turn 1.
Diehl started to pull away from the field. Travis Perry was working on Blaine Leppo for fourth. Perry got his nose under Leppo on lap 5 but Leppo beat him back to the flag stand. Perry made the move for fourth on the next lap.
McClelland was on Ott’s bumper as he tried to take second. The pair caught Diehl on lap 10 with the top three running bumper to bumper.
The leaders caught lapped traffic on lap 12 but moved around the first car maintaining their single file line.
The caution flag came out on lap 14 for Cory Phillips who came to a stop in turn 4.
Diehl led the field to the cone for the single file restart. Ott stuck his nose under Diehl for first coming out of turn 4 but Diehl held the spot.
The next lap Ott stuck his nose under Diehl coming out of turn 4, but this time it worked, and he beat Diehl back to the flag stand to take the lead.
The caution came out again on lap 17 for Patrick Debroisse, Zach Settle and Rick Hartwig. Hartwig was able to drive away. The caution turned to red flag conditions when Debroisse’s car went up in flames. Debroisse walked away from the fire.
Before the field could get lined up to complete the final three laps rain started to fall. The track crew ran in the track and just as it was coming in rain came again. The feature finish was made official.
Legends heat winners were Bill Diehl, Travis McClelland, Mason Chaney and Chris Transeau. The Legends consy races were won by Chandler Pagnotta and Zach Smith.
