Memorial day weekend saw the true American heroes being honored with reduced admission and some great racing. Six classes of racing action took place with The Sportsman division up first.
A 14.873 would earn Clyde Stanton the pole in his #c11 machine. Trouble would show it’s ugly head early on as point leader Kyle Courtney and Brandon Gardner tangled on the backstretch sending Courtney spinning into the infield. Both drivers would continue on with just slight damage. Back under green again and Stanton took the lead ahead of Poore and Zach Sise. Brad Seagle had his #31 machine going in the right direction early on as he worked the low line moving himself into the top five. Coming off turn four Ryan Carey got lose and made heavy contact with Kyle Courtney. With significant damage both drivers would be forced to retire for the evening. The green waved again and last weeks winner Zach Sise got a great run on the outside of Terry Poore as the two drag raced down the back for the runner up spot. The two would tangle and Poore ended up in the outside wall. Sise would close in on the leader but spun his machine in turn four ending his bid for a win. Clyde Stanton would lead the rest of the laps but declined protest giving the win to Brad Seagle.

The green waved and it was the familiar #83 in the top spot ahead of Jason Todd, David Darden and Steve Owens Jr. Thomas Clark had some issues in the heat so he was forced to start at the tail end in the feature but moved his way up quickly. Just four laps into the 20 and Clark was already in the top four as the laps ticked away. Halfway through and Byers had pulled away to a huge lead of nearly a full straight on second position. Clark would continue his drive from the back all the way up to third before all was said and done. Byers hit his marks perfectly and cruised to another win.

Trevor Sise would set fast time in the Steelhead Late Models with a 14.269 qualifying lap. The green wouldn’t be out very long as Shannon Smith spun his #20 machine on the second lap slowing the pace. Back under green and Josh Henry saw his time to pounce and he did by taking the second spot away from Chris Barton. Eric Titpon had a strong run going early on but slowed bringing out the caution once again. Michael Clark dove low on the restart but spun collecting Jimmy Ivester, Jesse Ivester and Zach Dunsmore. Clark would be able to continue but it was over for the other drivers involved. The green waved again and the fight was on for second as Henry and Barton battled it out putting on an incredible show for the packed crowd. After picking up the win a couple weeks ago it was a rough night for Jason Cardwell as he pulled off the track and retired early. With Sise and Henry pulling away it was intense for third between Barton who had been ran down by Bobby Mays. Sise wouldn’t have too much to deal with as he picked up his second straight win.

Up next was the 20 lap Classic Car feature. Lee Merritt would earn the pole after winning the heat race earlier in the day. Green in the air and Merritt took the top spot ahead of Eli Keck, Ritchie Overholser and the returning Adam Pressley. Pressley didn’t only have a cool looking new look he also had a fast car as he took over the third spot in the opening laps. As Merritt began to pull away out front the fight was on for fourth with Bobby Pressley putting the pressure on Rusty Welch. A caution on lap seven for Chris Nix erased the lead that Merritt had built up. After running in the top three earlier on, Overholser would find trouble on the restart as he spun as well bringing out the caution. Halfway through and Pressley was on a rail as he had caught the second place car of Keck. Pressley would work the low line the rest of the race but wouldn’t be able to get by. Up front Merritt would hold on to pick up back to back wins.

25 lap Crate Late Model feature for $1,000 was up next, After finishing runner up in the Steelhead feature, Josh Henry would have another shot at victory and a 14. 629 was enough to get him fast time in qualifying. Henry would put his #B00 machine on point on the start with Ross White, Justin Summers and Greg Husky in chase. Summers had his #99 hooked up early on putting the pressure on White for the runner up spot. The caution would wave on lap seven slowing the pace. Greg Husky made his move on the restart putting himself into the second spot. Jesse Lowe was also on the move working over Justin Summers for third spot as the laps ticked away. After his strong run in the opening laps Summers would have trouble and come to a stop bringing out the caution and ending his night. The restarts were wild all night long and the next one would be no exception as Greg Husky powered past Henry into the lead. Not to be outdone Henry would return the favor off turn four with a slide job of his own taking the lead back. The top three would battle it out the remainder of the race stealing the show. A caution on lap 22 gave everyone one last shot at Henry but it wasn’t meant to be as the Newport native picked up the win.
