5.30.20 Tyler County Speedway Results

After two shuttered months of inactivity, flattening of the curve and wonderment of what a 2020 race season would look like during the pandemic of COVID-19, the Hometown Racing Association would finally swing the gates open for the Tyler County Speedway’s 46th season. A double header of action would welcome race teams back to America’s Baddest Bullring. On Saturday Night, May 30th a bulging pit area of over 170 participants would square off in the first Saturday Night show of the season as race fans would be a welcome sight to all, at a 50 percent capacity. Picking up wins were Daniel Hill, Max Blair, Trey Watson, Steve Magyar, Cruz Vandall, James Close and the Casto Brothers.

The highlight of the night would be the $3,000 to win Advance Auto Parts UMP Modified division doing battle in the Mega 100. A stellar field of over 50 UMP Modifieds would hit the high banks with 3rd generation and ‘Bullring’ standout Daniel Hill having the field covered to garner the popular victory and parking his cool looking #8 machine in the West Virginia University of Parkersburg Victory Lane. Hill would sweep the weekend as he also claimed the Thursday Night portion of the event by wrestling the lead away from Drake Troutman. Hill would pilot the Bobby Hill Racing machine to the win followed by Josh Harris, KC Burdette, Eddie Carrier Jr., and Seth Daniels rounding out the top five in the very competitive field of open wheel racers.

Pennsylvania invader Max Blair would follow up his 2nd place Thursday Night run to pick up a dominating win in the J&R Excavating Super Late Model ‘Cabin Fever 30’ presented by Midcap Land and Timber. The ultra talented Blair would set fast time, grab his heat win and pick up his first win of the season. Finishing in the runner-up spot was a hard charging Ryan Montgomery and followed by a hornets nest of action for the third spot with Ronnie Mayle beating out Henry Hornsby and Tyler Evans for the podium.

The Appalachian Mineral Title Company FASTRAK division would take to the track for the first time in 2020 with a stout field of 25 competitors but when the checkered flag fell it was young Trey Watson grabbing the win. Watson pilots the Barry Wright Icon machine sponsored by Appalachian Mineral Title Company/ Watson Repair Service/ Watson Signs & Tee’s/ Sam Watson Trucking/ Highlines Rig Specialist. Following Watson across the line was rapidly improving Hayden Jacobs, Braeden Dillinger, the ‘Waterboy’ Luke Hyre with his best run to date and Beckley invader TJ Salango.

‘Big Daddy’ Steve Magyar of Wileyville, WV would kick off the season with a bang by garnering his first win of the season in the Sigler Fabrication EDGE Hotmod division presented by Poske Performance Parts. It would not come easy for the likeable Magyar as the Traymark LLC/ Mid’s Pasta Sauce/ Clip-n-Tails/ Headley’s Meat, Magyar Auto Detailing #50 would stave off defending track champion Danny Thomas in the races early stages and have to hold off a surging Brandon McGrady at the finish. Following Magyar was McGrady, Thomas, Tyler Spencer and BJ Dennis.

A rapidly growing Outlaw Auto Detailing & Auto Bullring Bomber division would see James Close of Beverly, WV grab his first Tyler County Speedway win aboard the Godwin Auto/ Dawson Towing/ KNP Trucking #55 Acura. Following Close across the line was Timothy Harlan, Eric Tidd, Landon Swiger and Billy Pratt. Heat race winner Tanya Colvin would be a scratch from feature contention with mechanical issues.
The Sportmod division would represent with a solid 21 car field and it would be Cruz Vandall securing the win. A hotly contested four car battle for the top spot would see the ‘double zero’ of Vandall take checkered flag ahead of a charging Kendall Hodge, Dwight Henry, Ohio Valley Speedway track champion Jack Kress and Cole Elkins.

In the youth league of motorsports, the Jenkins Auto Parts MWRA Mini Wedges would take to the track for the first time in 2020. A repeat of 2019 seems to be in the cards as the Casto Brothers continue their stranglehold on the West Virginia University of Parkersburg Victory Lane. The elder George Casto would grab the win ahead of Allen Clark and Keith Powell while the younger Jake Casto would garner accolades by besting the Junior division over Peyton Baker and Cruz Thomas.

During Night #1 of Tyler County Speedway’s ‘Return to Racing’ Waynesboro, VA’s Logan Roberson would be the big story on Thursday Night as the Tyler County Speedway would play host to Dirt on Dirt’s Late Model Night in America and the running of the King of the Ring 40. With the fan less event seeing the cameras of Dirt on Dirt’s PPV it was Roberson who would pick up his first Super Late Model feature win by holding off a late race charge from Max Blair. The young and determined Roberson would drive 6 plus hours to get to the ‘Bullring’ with one crewman and without his parents for the first time and would go on to grab the impressive win. The $5,000 to win at America’s Baddest Bullring would see Roberson best Blair, Kyle Thomas, Mike Benedum and Colten Burdette.
