5.6.22 Sooner Late Model Series Results
by John Rittenoure, LUBBOCK, Texas (May 6, 2022) – Jamie Burford dominated Friday nights Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series vs. Southern Tour Late Model Series event at West Texas Raceway.
Burford, of Keatchie, Louisiana, came from seventh place to win his heat then cruised to victory in the 30-lap main event to complete a perfect night.
Texan Cody Leonard led the first three laps of Friday’s main event. However, coming to the start-finish line to end lap four Leonard slowed and pulled to the infield and Burford crossed the line with the lead.
Burford pulled away from the field over the next 26 laps to post his first Sooner Series victory over Corey Neil, Jr. who worked his way through the field from the 10th starting position. CWT Sooner Late Model Series drivers, Hayden Ross, Eddie Martin and Zach Nickell finished third through fifth respectively.

The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas as well.
