6.1.14 Bedford Speedway Results

Austin Hubbard made his Bedford Sunday appearance a big one as dominated the Speedweek show at Bedford. It was Hubbard’s first Bedford Speedway win since 2011 and only the second of his carreer at the track. In other action, Robbie Black ended the Rick Singleton Limited domination, Justin Michael won the Semi Late race and Jonathan Taylor won another Modified event
Austin Hubbard and Dylan Yoder brought the field to the line in the Late model 40 lapper and Hubbard got the drop and led from the start. Yoder chased ahead of Jeff Rine and Jason Covert. After the event’s first caution on lap 15, Rine got by Yoder and took off after Hubbard.
Rine closed slightly on each lap Hubbard was still in charge when the field went yellow on lap 29. While many in attendance were expecting one of Rine’s familiar late race charges, it was Vic Coffey who made the late race run. He got by both Covert and Rine after a lap 30 restart and set out after Hubbard.
But Hubbard was on a rail and ran off to a safe winning margin at the end. Coffey took second ahead of Rine, the highest finishing Bedford regular, Covert, Rick Eckert, Kenny Pettyjohn, Tim McCreadie, Jamie Lathroum, Dan Stone and Gregg Satterlee, who had taken the last qualifying spot and started shotgun on the field.. Eckert, Coffey, Matt Parks and Covert won the heats. Tim Wilson and Mike Lupfer won the B mains.
Robby Black, who has had a season of misfortune at Bedford in 2014, redeemed himself as he became the first person other than Rick Singleton to win a Limited event this year at the track. His rough season so far blessed him with a rare for him up front starting spot. He got the drop on pole sitter George Dixon at the start and never looked back. Singleton, handicapped to ninth as the most recent feature winner, charged through the field in hopes of another win, but his advance ended at third when the laps ran out.
At the finish it was Black, Dixon, Singleton, Eric Irvin, Kyle Lee and Jake Jones. Black, Irvin and Dave Leidy won the heats.
Justin Michael beat Brian Duffy to the first turn and held off the mob to score the Semi Late event. While Michael led, Duffy had his hands full holding off a mob of up to six cars fighting amongst themselves. But Duffy held on to take second at the stripe, ahead of Greg Cornell, Dave Whetstone and Lou Wynnan. Cornell and Michael won the heats.
Brandon Lasalle led the early Economodified laps but the Taylor family ran him down by lap 4. Jonathan Taylor got by for the lead on lap 4 and never looked back. Evan Taylor got by for second on lap eight but never mounted a challenge and finished second. Lasalle, Dennis Perigo and Vic Vandergrift trailed.
