6.1.18 Davenport Speedway Results

DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 1, 2018) – The Davenport Speedway kicked off the month of June in style. The racing action included four first-time winners in our weekly classes and a visit from the Midwest Jalopies.

In the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model action, Chuck Hanna stole the show. Hanna easily won the late model heat race and then dominated the feature, leading twenty-three of the twenty-five laps.
Hanna took the lead from Joe Ross on a lap three and never looked back. Matt Ryan moved up through the field to record a second place finish. Joe Ross, Andy Nezworski, and Rob Toland, completed the late model top five.

The Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature had a similar story. A lap six restart gave Eric Barnes the opportunity to pass Craig Crawford for the lead. Barnes would lead the rest of the way to the checkers. Bryce Garnhart came from mid-pack to finish second, while Chris Zogg went from deep in the field to take third.
Craig Crawford held on to fourth with Bruce Hanford completing the top five. Modified heat race wins went to Barnes, Doug Crampton, and Jason Pershy.

Koehler Electric Street Stock action saw DeWayne Smith Jr. capture his first feature win of the season. Smith battled with Cary Brown early in the main, but was able to secure the lead a couple of laps later. Nick Hixson finished second on his first night out. Gene Ehlers drove to another third place finish. Fourth would go to Andrew Burk, with Bryan Ritter fifth.

Jared Waterman won his first Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod feature of the season. Mike Haines jumped out to the early lead in the race. Waterman took the lead and started to pull away. Following Waterman to the checkers were Mike Haines, Mike Adam, and Kyle Eller in that order. Henry Carson rounded out the top five.

The Midwest Jalopies joined in on the fun Friday. Rodney Haack captured the feature win. Terry Mattly came from the back of the pack to finish second. Austin Honts finished third.

Next Friday, June 8th, brings the SportMod Challenge to the Davenport Speedway. $2,000 awaits the winner of the SportMod main. Weekly point racing will be held in all other classes.
