6.10.17 NeSmith Late Models Results

(SEYMOUR, TENESSESSEE) – The conclusion of the NeSmith Racing Tennessee Doubleheader weekend of June 9th and 10th concluded at “Tennessee’s Action Track” 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN with the popular tribute race, the annual J.T. Kerr Memorial in front of a packed house under a full moon at the McCarter family promoted oval. Twenty-Five competitors signed in to battle the 3/8th mile and when the night concluded “no one” could stop the defending NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series National Champion #23 of Cory Hedgecock as he went on to hold off all challangers to take another prestigious “golden helmet” and a $4,000 payday to go along with it claiming his second straight J.T. Kerr Memorial victory.

Hedgecock got the evening started off quickly showing he was going to be the man to beat after setting quick time that locked in the top 10 qualifiers from Knowles Race Parts and Bodies QUICKTIME QUALIFYING presented by Sunoco Race Fuels with a 14.484 second lap of speed around the 4-1-1. Following Time Trials were the B-Main events to set the rest of the field. Rome, Georgia native #66 Jake Knowles and #87 Walker Arthur from Forrest, Virginia picked up the two B-Main last chance race wins and the field was set for 40 laps in the A-Main Feature. The field roared to life thanks to two special grand marshals – Alice Kay and Eva Vaughn hyping the crowd as the engines fired for the race to get underway.

There were numerous challenges from Tennessee contenders like #J39 Jimmy Elliott and #29 Rusty Ballenger to mount a charge for the lead, but every time that surfaced Hedgecock would quickly get back on the whip or caution flags would prevent it. The race was slowed five times with four single car spins and the biggest caution period coming on lap 28 which collected points contenders Brandon Williams in his #95 B&R Kustoms CVR and Andy Picklesimer in the Home Pros Painting CVR. However, on every restart that sometimes showed 4 and 5 wide racing mid pack on back no one could run down the #23 of Cory Hedgecock as he would dominate flag to flag at 411 Motor Speedway to claim the 2017 edition of the J.T. Kerr Memorial, a race in memory of Tommy Kerr’s grandfather proudly sanctioned by “America’s Leader in Racing”.
