The IMCA weekly racing program returned to the fairgrounds and the Dawson County Raceway as more valuable track, state and national points were on the line.
The modifieds, stock cars, sport mods, and hobby stocks were on the bill for Sunday’s racing action, and after a hot and windy start to the night, the racing would not disappoint as the feature came around.
The modified division saw a brand new winner at the end of the 20-lap finale. Wallace, Nebraska’s Brandon Clough took the race lead from the get-go and never looked back.
Point leader Anthony Roth had some tough luck after spinning on his own in turn four on lap six. He came back to finish fifth.
As for Clough, he led all 20 circuits and ended Roth’s four race winning streak by picking up his first modified win at Dawson County Raceway. Cale Osborn took home the second spot after starting at the rear of the field. Kale Smith finished fourth, his career best finish at DCR.

In Sunday’s stock car feature, last year’s points runner-up James Sheldon and Travis Kernick battled it out in the early stages. Sheldon led the first five laps until defending track champion Mike Nichols and proceeded to pull away.
The race was slowed and restarted multiple times as five caution flags took place, one of which involving Kyle Clough, who was second in the point standings going into the night. Clough would take a DNF finishing 12th.
As for Nichols, he went on to take the checkered flag picking up his fifth win in a row at DCR in 2018 and his 17th win of the season.

The sport mod feature went caution free for all 20 laps. Lexington native Jacob Wolsleben led the first three circuits before defending track champion Jacob Olmstead took over and ran away with the show.
Wolsleben later went toe to toe with point leader and cash dash winner Jacob Slough for the second. The Jacob’s swept the podium positions as Olmstead took his second consecutive win while Slough and Wolsleben took second and third.

In the hobby stock main event, T.C. McKain led the way early on while the stampede was right on his backside. McKain did not finish his heat race and was looking to turn his luck around in the feature.
Point leader Zach Olmstead was the only yellow flag victim of the race after he slid over the edge in turn one. He would come back to finish eighth.
On the restart, defending track champion Luke Wassom took the lead from McKain and never looked back. Wassom went on to get his first win of the season in dominating fashion.
