6.12.21 New Egypt Speedway Results

June 12, 2021): Justin Grosso of Belle Mead, NJ continued his recent dominance at New Egypt Speedway, as he won both the Sportsman and the Racersguide.com Crate Modified features on Saturday evening. Grosso led wire to wire in the 20 lap non-stop feature event for the Crates, then drove from the eighth starting position to the lead in 10 laps and went on to capture the Sportsman 20 lap event, which was not slowed by caution until 3 laps remained. It was Grosso’s first ever Open Sportsman triumph, whereas it was his 4th straight Crate Modified victory at the central Jersey speedway.

Grosso combined skill and luck for his Crate Modified victory, as he drew the pole for the feature event and took full advantage of it for his 4th straight win. Grosso sliced thru lapped traffic masterfully in the non-stop race, as Ryan Simmons was the only car that could keep pace with Grosso’s family owned j24, settling for a well deserved second place finish. Pat Wall, Johnny Bangs and Anthony Tramontana rounded out the top five in a rare sweep of the top five spots by the top five in points!

The Sportsman 20 lap feature saw Grosso start 8th but waste no time getting to the front, as he was in the top five in one lap. He then took second from last week’s winner Tom Princiotta on lap 7 and then raced by leader Will Dupree as they came to the halfway signal, taking the lead for good. When the caution came out with just 3 laps left, this brought 2 time winner Anthony Tramontana and a very fast Paul Mancini (who had started 18th) onto his back bumper. However, this did not phase Grosso as he drove the Marty Resnick owned #13R away from them and cruised to his first ever Sportsman win. Tramontana came home second followed by Mancini, who drove a great race from the back of the field. Early leader Dupree held on for fourth followed across the stripe by Dan Fleming.

Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s NEWS Wingless Sprint Car 20 lap feature event saw 2-time defending champion Rich Mellor take top honors for the second time this year. Mellor grabbed the lead from Heidi Hedin at the start and then outdueled point leader Mick D’Agastino for the victory. D’Agastino settled for the runner-up spot, chased across the line by Mark Bitner, Brian Spencer and Hedin.

The Lyons Construction/MetalFab Rookie feature saw Doug Dubiel win his first race of the season, holding off the two 3-time winners Brandon Shipley and Adam Buchel. Shipley closed to within 2 points of Buchel with just two races remaining, as they do battle for the prestigious 2021 NES Rookie championship.

The Street Stock 15 lap feature was won again by Rob Ormsbee for the fourth time this season in five events. Lee Allen again finished second, as he has for all 4 of Ormsbees wins. Joe Reid, Brian Spencer and Brian Ludwig rounded out the top five.

The John Blewett, Inc. 4-cylinders 15 lap feature once again was won by defending co-champ Justin Dunn as he continues his dominance this year. Dunn is now 6 for 6 in the 2021 point races, only losing to his dad during the one mid week show in May. His Dad Scott Dunn came home second again, after leading most of the event. Mike Fox, John Ciallella and Tim Jones were third thru fifth.

Next Saturday, June 19th, It will be Mustang night & Father’s day celebration, as the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds will be back to headline the show. They will be joined by the Larry’s Hot Rods and Harley’s NEWS wingless Sprint Cars, the Sportsman, Street Stocks and John Blewett Inc. 4-cylinders along with the Rookies. All Mustang owners that bring their car will receive ½ price admission for the driver. There will be a Mustang parade around the track at intermission.
