6.12.21 Red Clay Late Model Series Results

The Red Clay Series returned to Sugar Creek Raceway this past Saturday for their Grand Re-opening. 28 cars signed in for the $2000 to win event.

The field was split into two groups for qualifying. Cass Fowler was fastest in group A and Blake Craft was the fastest in Group B and claimed the Action Trailer Leasing fast time award.

Qualifying set the line-up for four heats. Booger Brooks, Blake Craft, Sawyer Tinker and Jake Green took home the heat wins and set the front two rows for the feature.

Tucker Anderson won the B-Main, while Dante Curtis and Cade Brookshire took the last two transfer positions. Caden Walston had to take a provisional to complete the feature line up.

Booger Brooks and Sawyer Tinker brought the field to the green. Brooks and Tinker raced side by side for the first lap before Brooks returned to his old form and claimed the top stop. Tinker settled into second but kept Brooks within reach. The rest of the field stayed bottled up and raced two and three wide for the first several laps. Michael Barnett brought out the first caution after some contact with another car.

Barnett retired from the event along with Rod Roberts. On the restart a few cars would contact each other and cause a pile up. This led to several drivers retiring from the event, including the leader Brooks who had an unrelated flat, Tinker also retired due to mechanical issues. Blake Craft inherited the lead to the misfortunes of Brooks and Tinker. The field returned to green flag action with Craft out front and current points leader Jake Green following closely.

After a long green flag run the caution showed its colors again with 8 laps to go. This caution saw a few more cars retire from the event. When the field returned back to green flag racing it looked like Green might have something for Craft, however Green started slowing with 4 to go before finally coming to stop for a flat tire with 3 laps to go. Craft went unchallenged from there to claim his first Red Clay Series win. Bailey Cardwell came from 6th to 2nd and Cass Fowler brought his longhorn to 3rd.
