6.12.21 Ventura Raceway Results
We now have two weeks of racing under our belt and things are starting to feel a little more normal. We had seven divisions of racers in the pits, four car classes and three motorcycles classes.
VRA Sprint Cars along with Senior Sprints both had first time winners. Tom Stephens Sr. passed Mike Cook on lap seven and never looked back and went on to take his first VRA Senior Sprint Car Feature. Stephens has raced at Ventura Raceway for many decades and has been victorious in several divisions. On the other hand Jacob Hodges has spent most of his racing career in Sprint Cars and showed his stuff by leading every lap of the VRA Sprint Car Main for his first Feature win.
Fan favorite VRA Dwarf Cars put on quite a show. There was lots of action from the green flag when Jeff Brink spun and ended up in turn one, to Tom Stephens Sr. and Gage Cheek getting tangled together and gathering up Dominic Maldonado and Mike Lewis, with Lewis ending on his roof. Jason Horton, the defending champion, was never contested for the win as he lead all the laps for his first victory of 2021. Evan Jonker finished second in his second race of his young career and Dominic Maldonado survived the early crash to finish third.
We had a couple of former IMCA Modified Track Champions in the field, the many time and current champion Jack Parker and Trevor Fitzgibbon. Fitzgibbon won his heat race and took the lead on lap three in the feature and fended off his buddy Danny Lauer and won the IMCA Modified Main. Trevor made a young fan happy by giving them his winning plaque.
Zac Murray bested the 100cc-150cc Pit Bike class Main and proceeded to do the same in the 125cc and under Pit Bike class. In the 100cc-150cc Pit Bike Main Murray had to chase down Jason Castillo for the win. The 450-250 Motocross Flat Track main was won by Travis Nunez trailed by JD Brittain second and Billy Maxwell third .
Next week will be the return of the USAC 360 Sprint Cars. Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, WMR Midgets and IMCA Mod Lites will join th 360 Sprints. For more information on tickets or up coming events check out our web site venturaraceway.com
