6.15.19 OCRS Sprints Results

by John Rittenoure – OCRS PR

NEVADA, Missouri (June 15, 2019) – Friday night Zach Chappell only led the final quarter lap in his victory at Humboldt Speedway. Saturday Chappell led all 30 on his way to a win at Nevada Speedway.

With his second Ameri-Flex / OCRS Sprint Car victory in two nights, Chappell pocketed $3,000 for the weekend and became the first Ameri-Flex / OCRS repeat winner of the season.

“It was good for us,” Chappell said after his victory. “With this group of guys that is not really easy to do. These guys are good. They don’t give you an inch and they drive 100 percent.”

Joe Bob Lee gave chase moving from fourth to second and Whit Gastineau passed Frank Taft for third on lap two. Lee and Gastineau followed Chappell through lapped traffic but could not get close enough to challenge. Andrew Deal finished fourth and Jase Randolph was fifth.

It was a good weekend overall for Lee. Despite changing engines in his Lupi Construction, Ameri-Flex sponsored sprinter during hot laps at Nevada, Lee’s second-place finish came on the heels of a strong third-place run on Friday at Humboldt.

Chappell was quick to give credit to his crew for making the two-night sweep possible.

“It was a good weekend for the Ameri-Flex cars and I can’t give these guys enough credit,” Chappell said pointing to his crew. “They work hard and make my life so much easier when I get in that car.”

It was the first ever visit to Nevada Speedway for the Ameri-Flex / OCRS teams.

“It was not a bad track,” Chappell said of the speedway. “It is smaller than Creek County but has more banking.

“It is nice racing different tracks. That is what I like about racing sprint cars. These people here have not seen a sprint car here in a long time.”

There are many devoted teams that follow the Ameri-Flex / OCRS series, but nobody showed that more over the weekend then Sheldon Barksdale and his family and crew. After trashing his car in a hard flip at Humboldt Speedway on Friday, Barksdale and crew drove back home to Norman where they switched the engine into a backup car. After sleeping for one and a half hours, they hit the road to Nevada. Unfortunately, they were only able to finish 10th on Saturday. But it was not for a lack of effort.

Avery Goodman earned York Plumbing Hard Charger honors after advancing eight positions to finish 7th.

Casey Buechler was involved in a lap 12 altercation that ended his night, but he went home with the M&W Aluminum Hard Luck award.
