6.16.11 USMTS Modifieds Results

UNITY, Wis. — The USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy ventured into Unity, Wis., Thursday night for the series’ first-ever event at the Central Wisconsin Raceway and Kelly Shryock added another track to his list of conquests.

Starting on the pole for the 40-lap WIX Filters “A” Main, the nine-time USMTS National Champion fought side by side for the first three laps with 2007 USMTS National Champion Jason Krohn before Krohn began to pull away and put some distance between himself and Shryock.

By lap 15, however, Shryock had reeled him back in and when Krohn struggled to get around a slower lapped car on lap 17, Shryock pounced and glided underneath to take command.

Second place was not the place to be for the last half of the race. After a caution flag on lap 26, Krohn was shuffled all the way back to sixth while Jon Tesch moved in to take over the position. Three laps later, Tesch brought out the next yellow flag when a broken shock left his machine crippled at the top of turn 1.

Al Hejna acquired the runner-up spot for the restart, but the caution was out again quickly as Hejna lost control in the first corner and collected four other cars in the process.

This time eighth-starting Ryan Ruter got his shot at the leader on the restart, but Shryock was too strong and pulled away over the final ten laps to score his seventh win of the season and fourth in the last eight contests.

Ruter held on for second while 14-year-old Lucas Schott matched his career-best finish by finishing third.

Krohn found his way back up to fourth and Mike Steensma rounded out the top five at the checkered flag.

Sixth through tenth were Zack VanderBeek, Colt Mather, Dereck Ramirez, Jason Grimes and Chris Brown.

On Friday and Saturday, the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy makes its much-anticipated return to the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., for two straight nights of $2,000-to-win racing action.

After nearly a decade since their last visit to the high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval, the USMTS Modifieds will be a part of the annual Masters event at “Wisconsin’s fastest piece of real estate” and sharing the spotlight with the UMP Late Models during their annual Summer Nationals grind.

The Cedar Lake Speedway is located 1 mile east of SR 35 on SR 64, then 4.2 miles north on CR C to CR CC, then left 1.8 miles. For more information, call 612-363-0479 or 715-248-7119 or check out www.cedarlakespeedway.com online.
