Winchester, Va- Third generation racer Wesley Bonebrake scored his first feature win of the season in last Saturday night’s 30-lap Limited Late Model headliner at Winchester Speedway. Bonebrake, a former division champion at the track, pocketed $1000 for the victory and it came steering his Mark and Fran Wright owned Rocket no.37.
Bruce Kane shot from the pole and seemed well on his way to victory as he lead effortlessly well through the half-way point in the event. As Kane set the pace, Bonebrake arrived in second on the 21st lap and eventually ran Kane Down. The duo encountered a lapped car on the 28th circuit, allowing Bonebrake the chance to slip by for the eventual win. “It’s better to be lucky than good sometimes.” Bonebrake stated post race. “I think we had the better car all night, but we got bottled up a bit and when the lapped car was there, I knew it was my shot to win.” Walter Crouch rallied late for second, Kane faded to third with Austin Stover and Scott Sweeney completing the top-five.
Former class champion Rick Hulson roared to his first win of the season in the 30-lap E-Mod main. Hulson took the lead on the first lap and would have to survive a late race rush from eventual runner-up Mike Altobelli Jr. to preserve the win. “We had a fast race car all night and it’s a great feeling to get a win for everyone who helps on this car.” Defending track champion Mike Corbin was third with 14th starting Beau Aikey and Alyssa Rowe rounding out the top-five.
In support class action, Michael Carter took his first win of the season in the 15-lap Pure Stock feature with defending track champion Cody Sumption scoring his second consecutive win in the 15-lap Enduro Stock nightcap.
