6.21.14 USMTS Modifieds Results

AMARILLO, Texas—In dominating fashion, Stormy Scott captured his second straight United States Modified Touring Series main event win Saturday night at the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas.

After coming from the last row to win his heat race and earn the Sybesma Graphics Pole Award, Scott redrew the third starting spot for the feature race, and then took control from Clyde Dunn Jr. on the sixth lap and never looked back.

The $2,000 triumph was Scott’s fifth in the S&S Fishing & Rental Southern Region presented by Day Motor Sports and tenth win overall during the 2014 campaign for the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by Swan Energy.

The second-winningest driver this season—Rodney Sanders—moved into the second spot early in Saturday’s 40-lap main event, and although he kept Scott in sight he was unable to challenge for the lead and had to settle for the runner-up paycheck.

Dunn held on for a third-place finish while Dereck Ramirez did the most passing, coming from 20th on the 28-car starting grid to finish fourth and earn the Mesilla Valley Transportation Hard Charger Award.
Amarillo’s Gene Weaver claimed the fifth spot, Steve Whiteaker Jr. was sixth and three more Amarillo aces—Jeremy Gossett, Braden Woods and Dee Gossett—were seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, while Philip Houston rounded out the top 10.

After a couple of days off, the tireless USMTS touring titans return to action on Tuesday, June 25, as they invade the Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Elm Mott, Texas, for the fourth straight year.

The Heart O’ Texas Speedway is a semi-banked 1/3-mile clay oval located off of I-35 at exit 343 (FM 308), then 0.6 mile north on east frontage road. For more information call 254-829-2294 or check out www.heartotexspeedway.com online.

From there, it’s five more nights of racing to wrap up the ‘Dozens Days of Dirt’ with stops at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on Wednesday; Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas, on Thursday; Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, on Friday; Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla., on Saturday; and Outlaw Motorsports Park in Oktaha, Okla., on Sunday.
