By Mike Spieker

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (June 21, 2019) – The spotlight shined on River Cities Speedway on Friday night as Midco Sports Network broadcasted their third live event to racing fans across the upper Midwest on cable TV. Both viewers at home and the River Cities faithful in the stands witnessed a great night of racing that had a first-time winner and a couple of young up-and-comers visit RydellCars.com Victory lane.
The Wells Concrete WISSOTA Street Stocks put on a show for their 15 lap main event. Tucker Pederson and Trey Hess led the field to the green flag from the front row. Pederson led the opening lap, but Hess charged back to lead lap two. The two ran side by side for the top spot for the first seven laps with Hess eventually taking sole possession of the point. Behind him, a gaggle of cars raced for second including Pederson, Dan McNamee, John Halvorson, Chase Boen and Ryan Johnson. At one point, they ran four-wide into turn three for the runner-up position.

Halvorson was the winner of the battle, taking the second spot and setting his sights on Hess. Boen followed Halvorson into third.

With two laps to go, Halvorson put heavy pressure on Hess for the lead, but Hess was able to hold on by one car length to capture his first career win at River Cities Speedway. Halvorson, Boen, Johnson and Pederson rounded out the top five.

Kelsi Pederson cruised to the 15-lap NLSA Lightning Sprint feature win. Pederson started on the pole and took the lead over fellow front row starter, Alex Truscinski on the opening lap. Pederson opened up a three car length lead early on, but Truscinski stayed within striking distance all race long. Once in lapped traffic, Truscinski closed the gap to within a car length, looking to the inside of Pederson occasionally, but never had enough of a run to pull alongside.

Pederson went on to take the win. Truscinski, Josh Abrahamson, Mike Schmiedeberg, and Dexter Dvergsten rounded out the top five.

For the second week in a row, Jade Hastings topped a loaded field of NOSA 410 Sprints during the Buffalo Wild Wings main event.

Nick Ranten and Tom Egeland brought the field to green with Ranten taking the early lead. Fifth-place starter, Jade Hastings, quickly moved into the second spot and tracked down Ranten to take the lead on lap five.

Mark Dobmeier took the second spot on lap six as Chris Ranten drove into third on lap nine. On the following lap, Ranten slid off the turn two embankment and took a hard series of end-over-end flips to bring out the red. Ranten was okay.

At the halfway point, Nick Ranten tumbled off of the edge of turn one. He was okay as well.

Dobmeier was given all he could handle by Wade Nygaard and Austin Pierce. Both Pierce and Nygaard were able to get by Dobmeier in the second half of the race, but the driver of the Buffalo Wild Wings No. 13 was able to eventually get back by to reclaim second.

In the final laps, Hastings’ engine started to lose power which allowed Dobmeier to close in. Dobmeier closed the gap dramatically on the last lap and looked like he had a chance to steal the win off turn four, but Hastings held on for the win.
